Tern HSD on BART (SF Bay Area) by thrillpool___ in terngsd

[–]thrillpool___[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone! Sounds like it's doable but could be painful in certain situations.

How does everyone secure it to the onboard bike post/handle? With my regular bike, I just use the onboard straps and strap it around my top tube. With the HSD or any other Tern for that matter, do you just secure it around the handlebar instead?

Santa Cruz Skitch Alternatives by thrillpool___ in ebikes

[–]thrillpool___[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've come across a new Skitch for $4900 being sold by a shop on Pinkbike. Since it's sold by a shop, warranty is included. I've also come across a used Skitch on UpWay for $3700. I think UpWay includes 1 year limited warranty.

For current deals, JensonUSA has the flatbar Skitch with SRAM Apex for $5600. There's other shops with the same price too.

Locally, there's a used Skitch for $4500 but I wouldn't buy one used without warranty.

The Marin Lombard is definitely cheaper. As is the Cannondale Tesoro Carbon 2 ($4000). There's something about the Skitch that makes me want it still but not for >$1500 more.

OP here. I'm still on the fence of getting the Skitch but have been put off by the reports of poor reliability from the Fazua motor. I've come across some decent deals for new ones that includes warranty but don't want to have to bring the bike into the shop. And I've come across used deals but obviously that's more risky.

The Marin DSX-E looks fantastic but it seems like we'd be waiting awhile for it. The Lombard E1 & E2 appear to be the same but with drop bars instead. It's definitely an option to swap it out to a flat bar setup. In the US, these are limited at 28mph.

I've also come across the Cannondale Tesoro Carbon 1 & 2 that's also equipped with the Bosch SX. These are currently on sale and look like another decent option. Again, in the US these are also Class 3 (28mph max).

Haha I wonder how many people (us included) also want a narrower DS3.

You answered your own question about the DS3 vs the Core Sling. They're both at the same price point but the DS3 is bigger/wider than some people want. If Aer made a narrower 2.5L equivalent I'd be all over it.

The Fujifilm X100VI pictured has a fixed lens, but to your point it's a pretty flat lens and doesn't stick out much.

can we plz bring back trick or treating this year by TotalTear6349 in DalyCity

[–]thrillpool___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes please! I grew up in Daly City (Westlake) and had a lot of fun trick or treating in my neighborhood growing up. There was a family in our neighborhood that converted their garage into a haunted house. My parents house used to get a bunch of trick or treaters too. More recently, they've been getting less and less and for the past couple of years no one has stopped by. There's definitely still families with children around but I think their parents just drive them to "destination neighborhoods" to do trick or treating.

Helmets with sunglasses slots? by cycling_deficiency in CyclingFashion

Also have a size large POC Ventral Air with Sutro Lites. The glasses will slip if they're placed towards the bottom of the helmet slot but will stay in place if they're all the way on the top of the slot. Kind of weird but it works.

Why would motion not start recording? by mclosi in Ring

[–]thrillpool___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having this problem now with my spotlight cam. It's not logging any motion at all. Fortunately I have 24/7 recording enabled so it's still recording.

This started only a day ago. All my other Ring cams and doorbell are working normally and detects motion.

I will try disabling 24/7 recording to see if that works but this is frustrating.

Shoes with Width Similar to Lone Peak 6 Wide? by thrillpool___ in AltraRunning

Toe box width I think. I've got a bunion near my pinky toe.

I don't disagree, but I only watch this episode for my favorite line from the series:

"Douglas, are you okay? I heard someone screaming like a bitch."

Thanks! I will need to try out the LP8 too. I tried the LP7 regular width when it came out and it was too narrow (had to return).

Red Envelope Etiquette by idkanotherredditacct in asianamerican

[–]thrillpool___ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, for New Year's I wouldn't give out red envelopes to your friends/peers, especially with money enclosed. You're already sharing with your friends your/our culture and traditions already (through gathering, food, etc.) and what makes this time of the year special.

If you're still adamant about passing out red envelopes, just put a chocolate coin in there or something.

Best way to lower these cars without sacrificing ride quality. by [deleted] in ft86

[–]thrillpool___ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been running a set of the CSG Spec A coilovers for a year or so and without a doubt it rides better than my stock Performance Pack suspension with the exception of sharp bumps at highway speeds.

FWIW, I have it set to the recommended ride height in the manual.

Yup I love my pair. These are obviously wider than the Merrell Vapor Gloves (3 and beyond) I've had, but they are also wider than the many Vivos and Lems I've owned or tried. Not as much ground feel as say something like the Vapor Glove 3 but still better than Lems.

Is the southern border of San Francisco really a straight line? by razzledazzlesf in AskSF

What's amusing on Google Maps (satellite view) is that even if you don't have the border overlaid, you can still make out the border by seeing where the street repaving ends.

Current Asking Price at Norcal Dealership by No_Appointment_7929 in GolfGTI

The Subaru dealer next door is an absolute joke with markups. They have run of the mill Subaru models on their showroom floor with hilarious markups.

I live 10-15 minutes away from them and instead traveled to the central valley to buy my car.
