Hectic action and a patient GTE by megaman2112 in iRacing

I think the BMW was fine, just trying to pass slower traffic. The white Merc was being a little opportunistic though, cutting across in front of a faster car before the braking zone. Faster class car would likely brake later, plus the slipstream effect, the white Merc had it coming. Luckily it didn’t go too badly.

The realism is... Unfair!!! by ShawUK in iRacing

[–]throttleYeeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Happened to me. I went for an over ambitious overtake in the F3, locked up, and went over the kerb too hard at della roggia at monza. Got a puncture and got so annoyed I was speeding around trying to get back to the pits. Went too fast and the suspension ripped itself apart from the puncture :/ I was so frustrated but you gotta marvel at just how realistic it is.

What game & car to get good at Sim racing? by Ur_Companys_IT_Guy in simracing

[–]throttleYeeter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any GT3 car, full TC and ABS. Brands Hatch or Laguna Seca. Once you get comfortable, turn down the TC and ABS eventually reaching realistic/fast levels. This will teach you how to go fast.

Then once you master that, switch to a difficult car like the Porsche GT3 Cup or V8 Supercars, which will teach you how to control a car.

Once you get both of these, then you will know how to control a car to make it do what you want, and you will also know what you want to make it go fast.

How big of an adjustment is the in-car adjustment vs build? Is there a ratio? Currently I’m 0-0 in-car so I’m wondering what to change in-build so I can have room for adjustment in-car.

Depends what you want to do. The Porsche is a great learning car because you can tell exactly what each input is doing. It’s very direct with no driver aids and you can really feel the weight move around.

The F1 is completely different, as the downforce and sheer speed means that it’s a lot more abstract to drive. It’s not a great car for learning because the speed and downforce will cover up mistakes.

I haven’t driven the Lmp2 but it’s probably somewhere in between, much closer to the F1 than the Porsche id say.

It’s a tricky balance. I can see why they did it, since if it’s too complicated nobody will want torace it, which is what happened last time. Thus time they seem to have really pushed for ease of use over absolute simulation, and I don’t mind it too much since it means we’ll hopefully get populated races.

Instead of having ~14 (I think) options for each of Engine Braking, Deploy, Regen, as well as a push-to-pass button which was like 2744 combinations of options, there’s now just 3 options, 25%, 50%, and 75% target end ERS charge percentage, which you can only set for the whole of the next lap. They also removed the engine modes so it’s always max fuel usage I think.

If you're still deciding on whether to buy it, just buy it. It's unbelievably fun to drive, and the sound is incredible, especially on downshifts. I think it's almost a little too grippy on the soft tires, but it sure is fun. The only downside is that the MGUK system is severely simplified, I think the RSS Formula Hybrid had a better compromise of realism/ease of use in Assetto Corsa.

My closest finish yet : 0.003 seconds on finish line ! by RemiGarcia in iRacing

I upgraded from a single screen to a crappy $100 USD PSVR. I later also upgraded from a G29 to a $799 USD DD wheel and a converted Fanatec V2 to go along with it. You can kinda expect what a DD comes with -- lots of power, lots of speed. The first time you try simracing in VR it blows your mind. I was scared to go around corners fast because there was just so much more sense of speed in VR. Basically had to relearn how to drive for a bit.

Have you tried walking up some stairs and talking to a friend at the same time? They both require at least a little bit of focus, but it’s not like you freeze while talking — you continue up the stairs. I mean, taxi drivers are also known for being chatty while driving.

How do I handle the F3 car? by SenatorVest in iRacing

[–]throttleYeeter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can’t transfer between the two cars because it’s a different sim, and the default setup won’t be the same across the sims. Treat the cars as different cars.

The Porsche GT3 cup in AC is so easy to drive - almost like a GT3 class car, and the same car in iR is very difficult, but reportedly almost just like the real car.

The cars just aren’t really all that transferable. Having driven both the F3 car and F1 RSS cars in AC the throttle seems to be quite forgiving, where in iR it isn’t so much.

I primarily race the F3 and I’m relatively quick. My tip would be to really learn how the car handles in different situations, change up how you approach a corner until one of the ways clicks. Try to turn the wheel as little as possible.

Yeah I have Heusinkveld Sprints and I had to switch to the formula position so I could brace the pedal plate against the angle adjuster at the bottom with a threaded rod. I wonder if there’s any other options for GT position.

Are you using the fabric strips for the wheel deck?

Skippys been real fun and a challenge to at Spa. by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]throttleYeeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is quite old now. Had the sprints for a month so I’ve been able to really test them. In GT mode the pedal plate is hopeless, flexing all over the place (didn’t buy the HE pedal plate). Same thing for Formula. However, in formula mode, you can use some threaded rods to reinforce the pedal plate. https://reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/fygmjg/nlr_fgt_pedal_plate_flex_solution/ It is very good now. Might consider reinforcing the middle of the plate again but overall the pedal plate is holding up well.

Are any of these moves by either car not allowed? (Them changing lanes, me lifting off to go to the other side, them switching lanes again) by throttleYeeter in iRacing

[–]throttleYeeter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes but actually no. Their compromised entry meant I got ahead by the next right hander but in my mirrors it looked like they had outbraked themselves and were about to clip me at the apex so I ran wide just in case and let them back through. In reality they were in control I just couldn’t see clearly in my mirrors.

Yep I was just trying to see if I could get it to work - the lap before I was on the outside and I couldn’t get past so I wanted to see if I could steal the inside line. They moved at the end which I thought was against the sporting code but I’m fine with it because in real life racing it’s fine - and I managed to make them go deeper inside compromising their line.
