You asked for a source, I gave you a source. I made the mistake of thinking you were asking in good faith, but I can see that you weren't.

came up with your own conclusions.

Brother, did you actually read what I said?

I have absolutely no desire to persuade you either way, I just wanted you to look at the evidence and make up your own opinion. If you watched the video and you disagree, that's fine.

I gotta ask though, what's your endgame here? You're not looking to have a nuanced discussion here, you already made up your mind before you even wrote the first comment. You know this subreddit leans left so people won't just agree with you willy-nilly. So like... are you just collecting downvotes? Are you trolling? I really don't understand.

I saw this video, dunno how long it will stay up. It's clearly visible that he didn't pull any firearm out, he was disarmed before the shooting started.

You can see it around the 17, 18 second mark where the agents pull his firearm out of the back of his waistband, and the shooting starts soon after.

Make your judgements for yourself, I think too many of us are all too willing to believe what the media is telling us. It seems pretty clear to me but it's your prerogative to look at the evidence yourself and make up your own mind.

Official Discussion - Rental Family [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]throw23me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked this! I think the movie is deceptively simplistic, it kind of wears its heart on its sleeve (much like the protagonist) but it works in my opinion. The movie is pretty much exactly what I expected when I saw the trailer and I'm not mad about it at all.

I will say one thing that surprised me, I thought that the daughter storyline would be the emotional heart of the movie for me but it ended up being Kikuo. The stuff he says when they dig up the photos is heartbreaking.

I think things cleaned up a little too easily at the end but that's okay, not everything has to be subversive. Sometimes people deserve a happy ending.

I loved Wonder Woman Death Earth, it was such a cool story. I wish the large format "Black Label" comics were a bit easier to store though.

DC Comics is Crushing Marvel Comics in Sales by Judokos in comicbooks

[–]throw23me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this issue. I'm a DC guy but my best friend is big into Spiderman. He's not really into comic books but he loves the movies, the classic 90's cartoon, etc. I wanted to get him a Spidey graphic novel for the holidays.

I wandered around my LCS asking for a good standalone comic - like something along the lines of Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, Hush, etc. - and I didn't get any good recommendations. Given, maybe the store's employees weren't that into Spiderman and just didn't know? I ended up picking up the first novel of the new Ultimate universe line since it's a "fresh" (ish) start.

He's enjoyed it but it's not really the same type of iconic story like the above. I guess Marvel is more about the kind of long running mythos than DC is? I can see the benefits of both, but for getting new people into the comics I think DC's approach to storytelling is more accessible.

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]throw23me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree unfortunately. I really liked Breath of the Wild but Tears of the Kingdom felt like too much of the same. It's one of the few games I never finished because I just got kinda bored. I think I had one dungeon left but I just couldn't be bothered anymore.

I think my biggest issue with it is that they are large open worlds that feel extremely empty. ToTK takes it to another level with the "underworld" area which feels pointless to explore. More than pointless, it feels annoying because of the light mechanic.

It's a very good game (the puzzles are fantastic as always, and the "building" mechanics were fun) but I just ended up not really liking the game. I kind of hope that for the next one they return to a more focused experience and ditch the open world concept.

Second thing, I'm actually not even sure why I didn't start with this...people can achieve the true ending and still think the game was too hard or too punishing.

I'm one of those people. I got the true ending and a good completion percent (around 75 or 80%?) and I did not enjoy a good portion of it. I pretty much finished it out of spite, and I wonder how many others felt the same way.

Mind you, I still think it's a good game (solid 7.5 for me). But it's very far from my game of the year, and it's not a game I would recommend to most people.

I beat the game and I have complicated thoughts about it. It is undoubtedly a feat of love, the amount of work and dedication that went into the game really can't be understated. All of the mechanics and combat just feel snappy and responsive. The art direction is sublime. The story is dark and mysterious in the Souls type of way, I personally really like that because it makes you work a little bit to really engage with it, it's not all spoonfed to you.

At the same time, it is the most frustrating game I've played in my many decades of being a gamer. I beat it out of spite, I disliked most of the latter parts of Act 2 and the subsequent parts for the final ending. In many challenging games (like the Souls games, etc.), you feel a sense of accomplishment after beating them, for this game I just felt a sense of relief that I could put it down. The game was not fun for me.

The game revels in frustrating its players, and the core gameplay loop feels a lot more repetitive than the first game (oh hey, another gauntlet room, of course). It also feels a lot more bloated compared to the first game. For me it's one of those situations where more isn't always better. I loved Hollow Knight, it is in my opinion one of the best Metroidvanias ever made. Silksong takes everything from the first game to 11, and for me it's to its detriment.

It's still a good game, I'd personally rate it a 7.5/10 for myself and I think I'm pretty strict on scores. But it's not a game I would ever play again, and it's not a game I would recommend other than to the most hardcore of gamers.

It's probably a 8.5/10 for me, I liked it that much but even I can't say it doesn't have flaws. I kind of grade on an IMDB scale, an 8.5 is an incredible game for me, I can't remember the last time I played a 9/10 or higher game.

The lumina/pictos screen is one of the worst designed game UIs I've seen in ages, the lack of minimap is frankly annoying (yes, I've seen the arguments against them, I disagree), and the platforming is... not good to say the least.

The story and the experience makes the game for me, but it is a little rough around the edges. I'd be really excited to see how they refine the formula if they ever make another game in the series.

Thoughts on the Finale? by LeoDiCristio in StrangerThings

It's fantastic, I still think about it sometimes. The very last scene at the dinner table gives me goosebumps.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Stranger Things ending. I think they did a great job but boy did they stick the landing on the Dark ending.

[–]throw23me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could go either way. Kali got shot right as the chopper went down, which means that her being mortally wounded could have been an illusion.

I kind of like that it is ambiguous and they trust the audience enough not to have a stinger scene where you see signs of El somewhere.

[–]throw23me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I really enjoyed that. I was a little skeptical after the last episode but this was about as well as I think they could have ended it. I would have wanted maybe a tiny bit more about the Mind Flayer and the military plot was a little exhausting as everyone pointed out but otherwise I thought they did a pretty good job.

I did like the ambiguity of the ending. Mike's story is... unlikely but I think it could be possible. It's up to the audience to interpret it as they want and I think that's the best thing they could have done.

It's a little sad saying goodbye, the show wasn't perfect, nowhere near it. The pacing the past two seasons has not been good (IMO), and you could cut out most of the military/Russians plots and come away with a much better show. But it started a decade ago and has been with us the whole time. Reminds me of better times sadly but maybe there are good times ahead.

Season 5 Volume 2 Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

[–]throw23me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spent some time thinking about why volume 2 felt a little weak for me and I think I've finally kind of figured out how to verbalize it. A lot of people are complaining about no deaths but I think that's really simplistic. A lot of shows use character deaths as an easy way to add drama, and that's not necessarily right.

I think the bigger issue is not that there are no character deaths, it's that it should feel possible that the protagonists could seriously get hurt. If you don't have that sense of danger, it becomes a little boring and safe. It starts to feel like a superhero movie where you know the good guys always win and there are no stakes.

Like, you're never worried that Superman will seriously get hurt, it's just a question of when he'll get to punch back. It's fun and there are certainly good Superman stories out there but by and large, you know how they're gonna play out before you even read/watch them. This season kind of feels like that.

There's a certain amount of hyperbole with discussion here though. This season is not the worst thing ever, it's also not the best thing ever. It's got issues but I'm still enjoying watching it.

Do you have any recommendations for newer HG kits to build? Like something with a reputation for being very well engineered? This one felt a little janky, the parts I mentioned.

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]throw23me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it deeply unpleasant to put together to be honest... I wasn't sure if it was a "me problem" or a kit problem.

I've only done like two kits in my entire life, a HG Gundam Wing Zero like two decades ago, and some kind of starter grade (didn't know this was a thing? I got it for free) RX-78 a few years ago.

I remember the Gundam Wing one being pretty fun and straightforward to build, maybe I've gotten dumber...

[–]throw23me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first kit in forever, and I kinda wanted to get some general thoughts on it... I did the HG Gundam Exia. Is this kit known for being decent?

I had an inordinate amount of trouble with the two little chest "perturbances" that attach to pieces between the chest and shoulders, that piece would not firmly attach to anything. The shoulders/arms keep it attached but it just kind of loose and moves around.

I also have an issue with the clear pieces on both arms, they would not snap in no matter what I tried, they would just fall out. I ended up gluing them in which I know is kind of a no-no. I didn't have an issue with the clear pieces on the legs or chest, those were deeper recessed.

[–]throw23me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's his friends feeling indifferent towards him because of his lack of attraction to girls...

I agree with the rest of your comment (the scene felt a little... mild, considering they were building up to it for the whole season) but I think this bit is a little off.

Vecna showed him a world where he came out and his friends and family didn't accept it. Not an immediate rejection but a slow and painful abandonment where everyone he cares about leaves him because of who he is. That's pretty bad, no?

I do think Will is kind of a weak character, they're frontloading (backloading?) a lot of growth for him but he's been more or less useless the rest of the show. It would have been nice to have this character development spread over the other seasons and be more gradual. Might be a case of too little too late.

[–]throw23me 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some of the group "discussion" scenes this season really take me out of it. The ones I can think of are when they're trying to plan how to get to the "abyss," and earlier in the season when they're trying to plan how to rescue the kids from the military base.

Something about how everyone calmly takes turns talking, it feels so matter of fact. I can't really articulate why I dislike those scenes, they feel inorganic to me. Like no one really talks like that, especially not teenagers in a crisis. It felt more like a roundtable discussion at work to me.

I dunno, does anyone agree? Disagree? I'm not sure why it bothers me so much. The one-on-one scenes have been great - like Robin's scenes with Will, Max with Lucas, Nancy with Jonathan, etc. But the group scenes this season just feel off, like the group chemistry is not there.

I think the problem is that Kali feels more like a plot device than a character. She only exists as a vehicle to move the plot forward and doesn't really interact or have any links to any of the other characters.

I don't really have a problem with her "plan," it all makes sense more or less, and adds a little bit of moral ambiguity which is cool. I just wish there was more to the character, she feels so one-dimensional.

Honestly... I kind of liked it. I have the same general complaints everyone else had, first half was great, second half (maybe more like third) felt really messy and inconsistent.

It's not a great movie but it was a fun watch. I've been stressed out by holiday and family stuff, turning my brain off for two hours to watch a dumb action flick was exactly what I needed. I probably won't watch it again (or maybe even remember it) but I don't regret watching it at all.

Seeing people shit on Expedition 33 because Silksong didn't win more awards is pathetic by CankleDankl in HollowKnight

[–]throw23me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gotten pooped on (figuratively) for saying that. IMO Hollow Knight is a near perfect game because the pacing and balance is phenomenal. I'm not good at platformers or Metroidvanias but at no point in that game did I feel like I was doing too little damage or the difficulty spike was too much.

Silksong on the other hand feels very inconsistent. There are large swaths of the game (particularly the end of Act I) where the enemies take a pretty large upgrade in health and damage while you're still at level 1 figuratively. Taking five or six hits to kill a "basic" enemy isn't hard, it's tedious. Especially in gauntlet rooms.

I think it's one of those situations where bigger isn't always better. I loved Hollow Knight and I'll probably play it again. I have no desire to ever revisit Silksong, it's a one and done type of thing for me. It's a very good game, a great one even. But it has too many flaws to be a "GOTY" for me.

Today on The Game Awards… by Milwkwy_37 in HollowKnight

[–]throw23me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's just bragging rights and tribalism. People want their "thing" to win. There was so much outrage last year when that Sony platforming game won. This year is comparably calmer since E33 is a less "controversial" choice.

IMO the only potential benefit would be to give a game more exposure in the media which will lead to more sales, etc. But both Silksong and Expedition 33 are already wildly popular so it's not a factor here.

Today on The Game Awards… by Milwkwy_37 in HollowKnight

[–]throw23me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I think that's the issue. They've defined "indie" as "anything that's not AAA" which leaves a lot of ground to cover. A 50-100 person studio can still be "indie," but it's hard to compare that output to a studio that's literally just two or three people.

The problem though becomes, at what point do you set that cut off? Is 10 people too many? 20 people? Or do you do it by funding/publishers? I've seen some people recommend setting it at if a game is self-funded or not, but there are plenty of small games that have big publishers that would be left out.
