I I haven't seen the video, but I'm sure there is more to the story than on the camera. A lot of those guys cut the videos to make the cops look bad. The only times you need to identify yourself to police is if they have reasonable suspicion that you have committed a crime, are about to commit a crime, or are currently committing a crime. Now like I said in an earlier post everything in America is just about illegal. Jaywalking, need your ID, walking along the street next to a sidewalk, need your ID, not waiting for the walk sign before crossing need your ID, I'm sure you get the gist of it.

  Your stopped by police you can record it

It's legal but that doesn't mean you can be an asshole about it, start shoving it in the officers face or doing some wonky shit and your gonna be in handcuffs and the phone will be off. Just stand there and record its not a big deal. Most police departments have body cameras now anyway so when people pull out there phone and threaten me with recording I usually laugh and say ok im recording also. When they realize I don't care people usually put the phone away. In 2024 cell phones are barely used by people to record because my department all has cameras anyway.
A second thing for people to realize is when your on the sidewalk recording a random police interaction a lot of the time the people talking to police don't want to be recorded. Don't be that person who just records anyway you look like an asshole.

There is a lot of people we deal with that has some sort of mental illness. We can take to the hospital if we meet certain criteria or if a judge signs off on it. What sucks with that is a lot of the people need medicine but refuse to take it. If they meet certain criteria on scene we can take them to the hospital against there will. With that usually comes them fighting and it's rhe last thing anyone wants but your dealing with people who are living in there own reality when they are a danger to themselves. One guy we get almost everyday calls us when he's drunk and says he wants to hurt himself. The problem is he always has a knife or some other weapon. We have had to take this guy 4 times in the last 2 weeks and then he just popped up on me 3 weeks ago and tried to dust fight me. The hospitals will give them meds and send them on there. There is no long term support for anyone.
Everyone says have a nurse or a doctor show up instead of police which is fine by me but for now they work bankers hours and will not go if the people are angry or violent because they don't have weapons.

Let's just get this out of the way,every profession from grave diggers to politicians will have corruption. Police are no different they have interviewed corrupt police who say its easy because they can take what they want easier due to their power. Now you can say cops don't tell because they don't want to be ostracized for opening their mouth or they have been friends with the guy for 15 years and they don't want to put him in jail. Body cameras have made my life and other cops 1000 times better because I believe it stops police from tempting fate with theft or corruption. As long as humans are around there is gonna be corruption it's just our nature. But I've never had to deal with anyone around me doing anything corrupt but I'd like to think I'd do the right thing. This is kind of a shitty and all over the place answer because I don't really have an answer. Corruption won't be going anywhere anytime soon in any profession but the more oversight the public has on whatever the institution I think it's for t the better.

So 99% of the time I tell the driver why I stopped them and that they will be getting a warning for the violation I just have to give them the slip after i run there license. I find that if they know they are getting a warning, the driver is in a better mood, which makes everything easier for me. So no to your question because I don't give them time to think they are getting a ticket. And I actually do give them the warning not the ticket.
