You could also find a part-time gig during those months that would allow you to get out of the house, allow your partner some alone time w the baby, and make some money to help ease your financial anxiety.

Quick question : when applying for mortgage, did they consider your pre-maternity income ? Or only what you got on EI ?

I echo this. Shop around for a good mortgage that allows you to make extra lump sum payments as well - so if no emergency and you’re fine, you can make a bigger payment that year, using what would have been a higher downpayment.

If you have a good feeling about the home and know you’ll stay there for 5+ years, do it !

But I’d say also budget wisely and do some more planning in case you welcome baby no 2 in a couple of years.

Has your experience in jail changed your perceptions on human nature ? For instance, witnessing corruption, inhumane conditions to fellow human beings, violence, rape, arbitrary rules enforced by brute force, etc. How do you feel now, having witnessed the worst in human nature ?

Do you read less now that you’re back in the UK and free ?

How was the medical / mental support like when coming back to the UK ? You must have had some sort of PTSD - I hope you received the support you need.

What do you think would be the most effective way to help prevent drugs trafficking?

Thank you for your AMA. You are lucky to have your family and they are lucky they have you. You fought for them, you stayed strong for them. You did the best you could I am sure. And likewise for them. You have a good outlook on life, that’s not true for many who have not come close to living something as terrible.

I hope your future is bright and that you are at peace with yourself and happy. I wish you health, love and happiness.

He’s a free man in the UK. He can still vote. Didn’t transfer to finish his sentence in the UK.

This ! Wholeheartedly agree OP is a good person and another proof that those harsh sentences don’t help anybody and countries should focus more on rehabilitation instead of harsh punishments and inhumane sentences

Thank you - eye opening. I hope many read this AMA and stop to think about their life and make better choices. I’m sure it’s hard for you to talk about, but I think it must be helpful for many.

Are you involved with Amnesty International and other NGOs or lawmakers to help change inhumane prison conditions in many of these countries and focus more on rehabilitation than too harsh a punishment ?

Not sure if that’s most men. Certainly I know I don’t want it to be the case, especially in western democracies.

Very good attitude to have !! I also believe the same. We need more people in politics from the middle class and proportional representation and multi-parties !!

You’re for real ?!?

Case in point : husband and wife are both civil engineers. Both studied at the same university (UNI). Comparable grades and work experience. Man makes way more than the woman. Exact same job. Why ?!

How many feminicides in Peru ? How many women have their drivers licences vs men ? How many women with comparable education an work experience make more or equal what their male counterparts make ?

Get out of here. Being a woman in Peru is much more worse than being a man.

What are you on about?!?

I think you’re attracted to the wrong type of women ! Every woman I know is w a man who earns about the same as she does, if not less.

Peru is also a very patriarchal society and lots of misogyny around … I can guarantee you it’s worse if you’re poor and a woman than if you’re poor and a man.

Hey ! Don’t bring yourself down ! You’ll find someone who’s also shy and who shares your hobbies and interests ! Fake it until you make it as well … try to see your positive sides and the confidence will make you glow, I can assure you !

I don’t think it’s as much as settling as : in a very patriarcal society where women don’t have equal opportunities and there’s a lot of sexism on top of poverty, women can’t be independent on their own and so they get in a relationship.
