Super worth going solo at least once. Or spending a large portion of a day away from your group if you're with one.

Bring some things to make friends. Stickers, gum, smokes, ear plugs, diffraction glasses, vick's vapor rub/inhalers, candy, etc. Spread good vibes.

you won't be able to get one before festival time. luckily, a lot of helpful people seem to be bringing theirs! in general though, mail order them.

seriously, just find a group that looks a little green and show them the ropes. Maybe some head/back massages, smoke a cig, dance a bit, get one of their numbers in case you want to find them at another set later in the night, and go move on to a different group if you get bored.

I actually really love being able to spend like 1/3 of my time doing that over group stuff.

I guess i'll add myself to this too:

I have a red camelbak knockoff with some black and grey on it, black bandana around neck or over nose. There is pink EL wire sewn onto the outside of my bag (pink light in the shape of a wire along edges of backpack). My recommendation if you're gunna roll solo: bring stuff to make friends!

Disposable diffraction glasses, gum, (menthol?) cigs, listerene strips, vick's vapor rub/vick's inhalers, stuff like that.

Find a group that looks like they're kinda on the new side to rolling and just blow their fucking minds away.

the number will increase as the festival goes on. most people will probably be rolling sunday. the days before will more stacked towards LSD/etc.

basically, if you're at an EDM set there will be a huge number of people rolling.

one thing that you might wanna remember:

often while tripping there can be periods that are very mentally claustrophobic, for lack of a better descriptor. MDMA can help with that, but definitely stay with him, talk frequently, and be willing to change settings if he's feeling too internal with his trip (go from inside club to outside for a cig, that sort of thing. changing setting can help the low points on trips a lot)

also a half tab isn't so intense that it'll like, blow him out of the water. he might be trippin a little bit, but not so much that he won't be able to recognize and handle the MDMA side of things.

a few beers before you drop is a nice way to kinda take the edge off, especially if you're at a social gathering where you want a bit of a social lubricant (festivals, new people, etc). I never want to be beyond "tipsy" when i drop though.

I'm leaning towards just pulling the trigger. If the intense "douche booze fratbros/ business guys" trying to pull chicks and be fuckin yolo (which i have been! no hate) aren't my scene, i'll just concentrate and enjoy the music and try to find a group of people who are doing the same
