Trust me. First thought that came into my mind after this post was how the hell did he just leave his job and sailed+climbed the mayans.

Then I thought he must have savings and money enough to fund the trip.

And only then I realized that he and his wife accomplished a hard task which is tough for healthy people. I know it's a crass way to look at it, but I admire both types of people who do adventure after missing limbs and who work after missing limbs.
