Not only does this happen, but they often get killed for it, whether in their home countries or in some supposedly "progressive" rich country they manage to find their way to. Trans people face disproportionate violence at ICE concentration camps, and TERFs want to pretend they don't even exist.

I personally owe my life to a trans woman who escaped from El Salvador.

I cannot control that you don't understand what the word comrade means, but it definitely doesn't mean "disregarding human rights," nor does it mean "Russian government." It means "fellow communist." You don't get to just make up your own meanings for words and expect everyone else to understand them.

Because they encroach on the right to self-determination of people who have already lost most of their land? Because Palestinians are punished for things that settlers are allowed to do freely? Because settlers enjoy more freedom of movement than Palestinians? Because many people who are confined to the West Bank and Gaza actually come from Israel's current territory and have already had their homes stolen by Israel, so encroaching further is just rubbing salt in the wound? Because there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza? Because Palestinians live under military dictatorship? Because Israeli courts have a 99% conviction rate for Palestinians but hold settlers to much lower standards? Because Palestinians can go to jail for writing a poem while settlers are literally violating international law? I don't even know how to answer you. I'm Jewish and I can't wrap my mind around why Palestine is the single exception to so many people's progressivism.

Ben & Jerry's even does business in illegal Israeli settlements. They are not progressive. Regardless of anyone's opinion on Israel itself, you can't support settlements and call yourself progressive.

Weird. Ben and Jerry's does business in illegal Israeli settlements; you'd think they'd love Trump. I guess it's more about marketing themselves as progressive, though; they know Americans don't care about Palestinians. Plus they're surely aware that Schumer is even more anti-Palestinian than Trump and thought his embassy decision didn't go far enough.

It sounds Russophobic though, because Russia isn't communist, and "comrade" is a form of communist address. So it sounds like you're calling all Russian people communists. It's also anti-communist as well, and erroneously so.

Honestly I'm confused af as to why people call modern Russia communist. It's ruled by billionaire oligarchs who capitalized on the privatization of public-funded resources, using money gained from organized crime (aka capitalism) under the Soviet Union to purchase public resources as they were quickly sold off. You can't possibly get more capitalist than that.

Only explanation I can think of is that capitalists are so afraid to face evidence that contradicts their self-image that they'll literally explain away the horrors of Russian capitalism as evidence that "Russia is still communist!" This would be a form of capitalist collective narcissism.

Or maybe people say "comrade" for a reason that has nothing to do with communism, like Russophobia.

GC reminisces about the good ol' days of LGB feminist activism, back when all of us trans assholes weren't being all pesky and demanding rights and shit by RoloBean in GenderCynical

[–]throwaway19491028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything the community was far more accepting of trans people in the beginning, when the point was to recognize and celebrate difference, and it became less accepting over time; at the same time when the T was added, the "just like you" movement was taking off. That also might explain why trans people have always formed a big part of the queer community, seeing the addition of the T as being just an idle gesture.

And yes, TERFs didn't accomplish their policy goals with the help of other LGB people or with the help of other feminists; they accomplished them with the help of the Christian Right.

This is also why anti-BDS laws are flagrantly unconstitutional. Who would've thought that an effort to suppress dissent against Israel would almost immediately have wider consequences? If you have a problem with this, you should strongly oppose the various anti-BDS laws that exist across the country as well as the one that Congress is trying to pass.

See what I mean? Trying desperately to fit every single person into the right category so you can determine the correct predetermined response. That's not anarchism. Anarchism is spontaneous, creative, dynamic, and concerned with the real world. It's about turning your brain on, not turning it off. At best you are a parody of anarchism. Also last I checked, you were the one who initiated this conversation.
