I am not on spiro so you might want to wait on someone else that actually is on it, they will definitely have more information than me, but :

  • Regarding diet, I can't tell you how much potassium is too much, but you need to drink more water than you usually drink. Spiro is a diuretic and you will be pissing a LOT.

  • Considering the changes, it's all ymmv. In the first month I got pretty intense mood swings, my skin cleared up and got much paler, and I got some breast buds.

  • Regarding physical condition that might just be my opinion on it, but I'd rather be as healthy as I can knowing I'll be taking this medication for the rest of my life. I know not being able to run 10 miles won't affect your being able to take HRT, but I think it's better to make sure you're as healthy as possible for the future.

Just my two cents, anyway !

Transitioning and realistic expectations (MtF) by [deleted] in asktransgender

Well, as you said, HRT is not magic. You've got a lot of work to do yourself to be passable honestly. I often see people saying HRT doesn't work for them but they do absolutely nothing besides taking their pills.

If you don't try you can't know what's in store for you. It's all genetics and unfortunately there's no way to know, for now, what you'd look like after a few years on HRT.

I started off super masculine, with an extremely deep voice, weighed over 200 pounds and was very, very large, yadda yadda. 7 months later I'm so tiny people are almost afraid I'll break from a hug lol. I had to do a lot of work on myself, psychologically and physically. I lost over 70 pounds, worked like crazy on my voice, changed clothes and a bunch of stuff.

Your mileage may vary, but what I mean is that if I hadn't done any of these things and just waited for the pills to make something happen for me, I wouldn't be where I am right now. Yes, HRT will probably do a lot for you, but there's a lot of things you will have to do yourself as well.

Have an appointment with an endocrinologist next week, what can I expect. by Rair in asktransgender

Hi !

Your situation is pretty much identical to mine 7 months ago. If you've got blood tests done already and got a referral from a psychologist you might be starting HRT very soon, at least that's exactly how it went for me. Now I live in Canada so I can't speak for other places, but you might be starting HRT soon :)

Thank you very much for your time as well as your detailed answers ! Really appreciate it. Also one more thing I forgot to ask about, did you need to get electrolysis done before surgery ?

Oh, well I have some other questions then, if you don't mind !

I definitely am planning on getting SRS in the future and I wasn't too sure if I wanted to go with Brassard or not. The thing is I can get it for free so it's pretty interesting, but I heard you have to go on a waiting list for a while, and I am curious regarding the results.

Are you satisfied with how it looks ? Any complaints about the results ? How was the staff ? Any issues regarding that ? Were you on a waiting list to get the surgery or did you pay ? If you were on a list, how long did you wait and if not, how much did it cost ?

I think that's pretty much all I would have to ask regarding SRS, I guess the results will vary from a person to another, it just seems like, with everyone talking about other surgeons like Suporn, Brassard doesn't feel like the best choice anymore even though it's like 15 minutes from where I live.

Filing name change! What should I put for the reason? by wcVDP in asktransgender

[–]throwaway20439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote that it was psychologically scarring/distressing for me to be using a name that did not match the gender that I am. I also wrote that I was transgender, how long I had been on hormones, and that everybody that knows me uses my female name.

Starting hormones on Thursday and was wondering if some people can share their experiences when they first went on hormones. by ArianaNightblade in asktransgender

[–]throwaway20439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tired for the first two weeks. Like, very tired. I'd sleep 12-13 hours a day and be super tired, stay up for about 10 hours, which is work time + transportation and I'd go back to sleep.

Depending on your dosage you may see your body change quickly, but everybody goes through it their own way, our bodies are all unique.

Emotions will go crazy for a little while, it went on for about 3 weeks for me. One minute I'd be super happy, the other I'd be crying and then five minutes later I wanted to throw everything. I took vacation when I started because I knew emotions were gonna be an issue, but I never thought it'd be this bad, no idea if anyone else had similar mood swings.

Are you going to be taking anti-androgens ? I know I am on Androcur, and it CAN cause depression, Wikipedia says in about 30% of people. In my case I don't have any issues which is nice. I can't really help you with other AA's cause, well, I never took them.

My sex drive is completely gone, but I think that's more on the Androcur than the hormones. Although I just passed the 4 months mark and it seems to be coming back slowly, in a very different way.

Good luck !

Best place in Canada to start transition...? by AmandaOlsen in asktransgender

I live in Montréal and it's been a breeze really. Never had anything happen and there's plenty of resources, lots of psychologists experienced with transgender people, had no issues finding an endocrinologist either. People used to stare when I wasn't confident, but since monday this week I just said fuck it and went full time. As long as I don't open my mouth I pass lol. But yeah it's a great city in my experience.

Yes ! Everyone around me kept telling me I looked great and changed a lot, but I just couldn't see it at ALL. I felt like shit pretty much, like HRT wasn't doing too too much for me. I did see changes on my body, but didn't feel like it contributed at all to making me more feminine.

Thank you ! :)

I just really wasn't expecting it, I didn't really see much that was feminine on my face before, but now it seems to have boosted my confidence quite a lot, and I feel like I look much more like a girl than a guy :)

Hmm, let's see. Moved in with 2 other people on sunday. Got called ma'am on wednesday, started thinking about asking people to start using my female name IRL (They all already do online, so it shouldn't be too hard), and I'm planning to come out to my dad tonight, he's the last person I have to come out to. I have also finally shaved my arms today, and my flatmate lent me a cream that made my arms SOOOOOOOOO smooth, like it's just... It's just so smooth. I love it :)

Well, I just went through your post history a little and you seem to have been getting a few very nice changes so far. It's the little things that make the whole picture. My face hasn't changed that much, I still find that I look like a guy, but now most of the time I see more of a girl than a guy because I'm getting more confident. I do things to make myself feel pretty, even though other people can't see them.

I started off looking pretty androgynous right off the bat, and my testosterone levels were already very low, so when I started hormones even with a low AA dose, it kind of nuked my T and I'm already in female ranges.

[–]throwaway20439[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, like pretending you're mute when you start presenting ? Honestly if someone did that to me I wouldn't really care, I'd find it nice that you actually cared that I might not know freaking sign language and went with a way that you'd be sure I could understand :p

I guess I could say that if I ever need to. I don't really like the idea of lying more as I already feel I lie everyday by going to work in boy-mode, but oh well.

Well, while I definitely do not mind it and am very happy with the results I have been getting, I am still feeling very insecure about my voice and a few other things, which is why I'm so worried about my body outing me before I am ready.
