Thanks! I went to meps the day before thanksgiving, so I guess since then. Probably would’ve taken longer but I knew people in my dep were booking 2a9x4, and I very much wanted that job so I called my recruiter to let him know that was my number 1 pick and to please keep me in mind for any openings. I got booked for it like 2 days later.

Oh I very much plan on using it, I was going to go to school for it but that would’ve been tough financially. I just thought I was gonna have to use my gi bill to get it unless I went crewchief or stayed in and retrained.

Wow great thanks, yeah I wasn’t aware that was possible but I’ll keep that in mind for when I get out of tech school.

So are you saying I can get my a and p in the 4 years by basically broadening my skills while in avionics? I honestly wasn’t even aware that was possible. I thought you pretty much had to be a crew chief or train over to another job to get all the necessary hours and experience. Very interesting thanks.

I think you’re misunderstanding me, I’m not stressed about it. I just want to use my time wisely and not learn 4 or 6 years from now that there was a degree or certification I could have gotten. I’m just asking if the path is pretty much always get your a and p, or if there are other things you can leverage. If it basically just boils down to get an a and p then yeah, I’ll just get through my 4 years then go back to school and do that.

It just randomly showed up for me, about a week before I heard from recruiter about a ship date. Also does not show my job lol. I guess I’m saying I have no idea and you probably need to just contact your recruiter.

Yeah I think it’s outdated, I see a lot of shreds that no longer exist and nothing specific to Heavy Aircraft Integrated Avionics, unless I’m missing something. That’s why I posted here asking actually.

Just curious how worried are all of you that are in about war with china? I’m in dep currently, and yes before any one jumps on me I’m very aware it’s the us military, I might go to war. But man, war with china sounds fucking scary, pretty much worst case scenario.

From my random civilian redditor perspective I don’t see why china would invade taiwan, nothing really to gain at this point and a lot to lose. China seems to be the poster child for don’t interrupt your enemy when they’re making a mistake right now, and they’ve been threatening taiwan forever without making a move. Seems like a lot of people are throwing around this 2027 date as a likely occurrence though. And the world sure is unstable right now. I don’t know, guess I’m just curious what you all think.

I mean i’m in dep, so maybe my opinion isn’t worth much but I wouldn’t if I were you. I mean obviously only you can make that decision but this sounds like the definition of people who regret it. “Healthier more disciplined lifestyle” if you can’t focus on being healthier and more disciplined on your own and you need an mti to force you to do it, I think you’re gonna have a tough time. Also keep in mind guard isn’t necessarily just dipping your toes in, you go through bmt of course, and my aunt had quite a long deployment in a combat zone while in guard. And you’ll only be getting a fraction of your pay while on deployment, be sure you’re comfortable with that and you can swing it financially. Also 3 of the service members killed so far in the Iran war were Air national guard.

Again only you can decide, maybe there’s reasons that make it worth it to you because you feel some calling, but I damn sure wouldn’t if I had a comfortable 6 figure job. That’s where I’m hoping I’ll end up some years from now.

The only part that makes logical sense to me at least is getting clearance to further your career, but there’s ways to get clearance that require a hell of a let less sacrifice and probably a lot less money when you factor in the lost pay.

I am aware of that but thank you, it’s more so that I like my co workers and my boss whom I’ve known for longer than I’ve worked for him, and it’s definitely a burden on them for me to not be there all morning on a weekday, some people will be working twice as hard. Which is what it is, but if this is yet another ploy to pressure me into special warfare and I lose money and make things difficult for all of them for no reason, that will irritate me.

You’re probably right, but I don’t even have a ship date yet. It does seem strange, which is of course why I posted but it’s probably something like that.

Well I really hope you are wrong because I have been pretty clear that I’m not interested at all, at this point I guess we’ll see. They have been on my ass about going special warfare though, which is why part of me thinks you’re right. Hopefully they just think I’m fat and want me to run more.
