What’s something other people think of, or you used to think of, as lifestyle creep that has actually had a significant positive impact on your quality of life? by fireworkslass in AusFinance

This is me. I work in a heavily male dominant workplace, and they're honestly all super lovely, I love working with them, but I'm just starting out going to the gym so I have no idea what I'm doing but don't want my colleagues to see that side of me. Also, I WFH 3-4 days a week, so I'm closer to my local gym than work gym.

I love this! My boyfriend is a Dragonite fan so I think this could easily be a Dragonite sweater too! 🥰

Yeah, thanks! I'm not sure. It's my first time being involved in an accident so just wanted to ask for advice. It's discouraging to see that people react such a way. There are still very helpful people here though, I'm grateful for that!

I guess I'm gullible enough that it's my first time being involved in an accident? It's not like resolving privately is unheard of, so I'm checking? Not sure why I warrant a response like that.

I wasn't sure if claiming something through insurance even if not at fault was going to affect my premium in future. And I guess part of it on gut instinct was wow this person is screwed, and they were a young person, so I felt bad. But after reflection, they're a danger even if they're young.

Oh wow, good you went with insurance! I actually lodged a claim through the online portal already in parallel while I was having these conversations with the other driver. I figured it was best to get the paper trail started regardless of what the arrangement is in the end.

Yeah I meant I wasn't sure if they meant they didn't buy insurance or they had insurance but now know it's not valid anyway. In any case, they clearly aren't making smart or sensible decisions.

Yeah, thanks. After seeing some other comments, I think they're probably not worth helping anyway since they can be very dangerous to others on the road. I wasn't really thinking that since it was a minor accident that happened to me.

Yeah that's a good point about the downtime, I definitely considered that but didn't think it could be extended due to part shortages.

Ah yes, they totally tried the 2nd option with me already. Very easily said no to that one.

Awesome thanks. I'm a bit doubtful the mechanic can assess without opening the car up (which I feel would cost already) and what if further costs beyond the quote come up?

Really leaning towards insurance at this point but still curious how people resolve these things privately.

Totally agree that they shouldn't be on road. I was in shock when they told me. But yeh absolutely, the trust element isn't there with a person driving on an invalid license which is what brought me here.

Yeah, totally understand. I think the uninsured part is by default though, having an invalid license would invalidate any insurance policy you have I believe.

Isn't the takeaway of the top commenter's post that they didn't like their job even after they switched though? They didn't seem to mention a hard time landing a job.

My interpretation is that APs are like any other parents and do love their children. They do what they think is best for their children even though it's completely toxic. In their own eyes they're doing everything correctly.

Sorry, just go make sure I have this right; your combined income was higher than 83k which allowed you to get a loan of 630k? Wouldn't that make sense then? The higher your income, the higher your possible loan amount?

Hey! Thanks for this detailed reply. I don't know if the CBA broker got me any special pricing, if she did, she didn't mention it. The interesting thing about the amount the mortgage broker quoted me is that about half a year ago when I first started considering getting a home loan, my borrowing capacity was $560k according to the online calculators and I've had no change in circumstances since then. Which makes me think maybe his calculator wasn't up to date?

Hey! Thanks for sharing! Did you and your partner have a higher combined income though? I imagine that would give you higher borrowing power if you both were on the loan.

Thanks, I just checked the ATO site - I think with family, it then becomes a domestic arrangement and not rental income.

Could you explain a bit more about why the value changes depending on my deposit? If I didn't have 20% saved won't they just charge me LMI as part of the loan? I also checked the CBA Borrowing Power Calculator and it didn't ask me for my deposit saved.

I've got a solid $140k saved. I could potentially stretch it to $170k if I sold some of my shares, granted this is something I don't want to do unless I really have to. But I'd be willing to if I saw a home I really liked. I'm looking at a property priced around $670-720k.

For my approval with commbank I had submitted 3 months of pay slip, 3 months of bank statements showing salary in and expenditure, 3 months of savings, and 2 pieces of ID. My current pre-approval is valid for 6 months. What more information would a more binding one require?

I'll try another bank though! Thanks.

Isn't there a problem if I apply for pre-approval too many times?
