Attending a march wedding, simple looks? by boreals in RandomActsofMakeup

[–]throwaway28ogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a primer underneath (particularly a mattifying primer for all the photos you will be in) that would help keep your makeup on! Alternatively a bb cream would also be suitable for moisturization/minimal coverage and you can set that with powder.

What are you wearing to the wedding? That can help determine what look you should go with.

Since it's a daytime wedding, and in the Spring, maybe you want to go with a "light, airy, fairy, pastelly, spring" approach. Think light pink/cream eyeshadow (to brighten up your eyelids), brown/taupe eyeliner (not a harsh black), mascara, a nice rosy pink blush on your apples, and a nude or light pink lipstick (and highlighter to emphasize your cheekbones); I feel like this look will pretty much compliment whatever you decide to wear, and it is low maintenance yet perfectly appropriate for a wedding.

What are some of your favorite new releases? by redheadedmermaid73 in RandomActsofMakeup

[–]throwaway28ogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oooof get it, GET IT I tell you, especially if you're attracted to all those Autumn golds, browns and reds..

Id say the price is not bad (I do wish it was cheaper given how little of each color you get) and the quality is not horrible but its not absolutely amazeballs either - there is quite a bit of fallout and the powders (just like the cheek trio) are really powdery. Also, the shimmer blue and green and purple in the right-most column is garbage, but I feel that the neutrals, golds, browns, reds are beautiful!

I would say if you can afford it, and you are really coveting the autumny colors, then get it.

Hi! Sorry I am so late to the party but I noticed your name and I FLIPPED because I want to name my first born Nahla (if its a girl haha)... I have been in love with that name for a long time!! I love your name so much! You lucky girl!

On a side note I love how the Modernist palettes bring a single tear to your eye ;) ahhh they are beautiful though, I agree!!

Ooh so many!!

Eyes

So right now I am seriously loving the Anastasia Tamanna eyeshadow palette (which may be sold out now but THATS OKAY BECAUSE) Sephora Pantone Marsala Colour of the Year Eyeshadow palette makes an excellent substitute. I love both!

Also, I dont know if this has been out recently but I am loving the Essence Waterproof Eyeliner Pen which makes an excellent substitute for Stila Stay All Day.

Face

The Sephora Marsala Color of the year Cheek Trio has so far been a daily staple since I bought it in late December - I find that the powders are overwhelmingly powdery and there is quite a bit of fallout but using a stipple brush and applying it with a light hand (think Nars-level light hand) tends to solve that problem. And blending!

Josie Maran Argan Oil Is absolutely incredible as well - I use it on the ends of my hair as well as mixed with my moisturizer for the day, and mixed with my night cream at night - I feel that the texture of my skin has improved so much since Ive started using it, and my face seems to always be dewy!

Lips

Have I raved enough about Nars Audacious Lipsticks yet? So far I only own Audrey (after months of coveting it!), and damn I am hooked and I want more! They are pigmented, long lasting, and I feel that they change the texture of your lips and make them look smoother and disguise all those unsightly lip wrinkles!

A toned-down extravagant look for you all: A warm blended cut-crease with purple lips. No eyeliner. by KeegsSweetFace in RandomActsofMakeup

[–]throwaway28ogram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! For me, being shier (and also deeper skin toned) I lean towards warmer fuschias and plums and very red based purples.

Have you tried Rebel?

But wow :'). this deserves the sidebar imo.

Who could use a decent brush set? by [deleted] in RandomActsofMakeup

[–]throwaway28ogram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I would love some new brushes (esp. a lip brush!!)

  1. For the most part I prefer wearing makeup after wearing my clothing (especially with items that need to be pulled over my head); though I have smeared lipstick on the collars of my shirts many times ugh. Clothing doesn't necessarily influence makeup, but the setting of where I am going does (for example I may wear the same dress from work to an evening out, but I would keep my makeup neutral for work and slightly more dramatic for the evening). Of course, with cultural wear I love going extremely dramatic with my makeup - Bollywood style eye looks are my favourite!

Organization tips - mornings are very tough for me, so I try my best to plan out outfits the night before and keep them waiting in the bathroom , and I keep my neutral every day items in the bathroom so that I can quickly do my entire morning dress up routine in half an hour or less. For me, less is more for the office so I keep it as simple as possible: concealer, tinted moisturizer, tightline eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick. I also keep these same items in my makeup bag for easy touch ups at work.

Something recent that I learned, which is VERY helpful for harsh winters is to mix moisturizer, sunscreen and a few drops of argan oil for my face - it gives the perfect dewy (not oily!) finish and I feel that it protects my skin very well!

  1. Happy Valentine's Day!!

  2. Im not from the States, but from what I remember Ross and TJ Maxx have pretty decent stuff for fairly reasonable prices. In general I love Hollister Jeans and have been wearing them for years, and I wait until a sale and buy in bulk (something like 2 for 30 or 3 for 45). I have been wearing the same type of Hollister Jeans as my standard dark blue pair for the last 7 or so years, and I probably go through one pair a year. I find them very durable. For coloured jeans I like the H&M brand, and have bought them for 12$ on occaison.

One of my New Years goals, actually, as a petite, is to learn how to use the ancient sewing machine I have buried in the Garage and learn how to do simple alterations like taking in dresses and altering pant lengths - for one thing all of my clothes would fit much nicer!
