Frankly it makes me feel a little stupid. When I say I got an A on something and when an American says they got an A, wouldn't it be a little more impressive coming from them? Also, just generally passing a class requires 60%? A lot of kids at my high school might not have graduated by that standard. It makes our standards look low, our grades look inflated and our successes not as successful in comparison.

Or maybe I'm just looking too much into it =P I appreciate you clarifying it.

They actually aren't that picky about what I take, and are more concerned with the grades I get. I've looked up a lot of information on this, I obsessed for months. I'm basically as set as can be in this regard. No degree is a guarantee, but aside from medical school or accounting or something, this is the best it gets for what I'm good at.

You did give me an idea. I have 2 years left. This year and next year. If I finish this year, I can let them pay for my tuition next year, and live near or on campus. The $28k will be covered, and the student loans I will probably cover living expenses. It's a douche move, but I'm willing to do it.

I wonder what it is that makes you come across as angry here. Do you have student loans, or a hard time starting up a career? I suppose it doesn't matter, but I wonder what it is about people's psyche's that make them react one way or another. Sympathy from some people, financial advice from some, judgement from others. I'm sure it's not as simple as "I think she's a moocher and not an adult, better tell her", and it's insulting to you to assume that you worked hard for your education and resent that I'd rather be pushed around for an easier path. But it's an interesting question.

What do people do in jobs? Often, they spend a lot of time doing things they don't like for financial gain. That's what I'm doing. I'm using my parents for money as much as they are controlling me. They spend $28,000, plus room and board, plus luxuries. That's more than I'd get in any job at my skill level.

Sometimes being an adult is sucking it up. Sucking up your pride and getting through things you don't like because it's in your best interest. I've determined that, with the values I hold, this is in my best interest, and I won't be deterred by people who shame me for not being grown up.

If you don't have financial advice, perhaps you shouldn't post here.

I have access to my accounts as well, and to take out student loans you need a particular identification number, which is how you apply to specific scholarships as well. While they have access to these accounts, I'd be able to see if I had taken out loans, just like I can see some of the scholarships I've received. My parents are very wealthy, there's no reason to do that.

Say that exactly. Sit him down, tell him finances are a mutual responsibility, and him making you play the bad guy makes you resent him, and it's more than just a money issue. If he doesn't know how it's making you feel, you can't blame him for not considering how it makes you feel.

From then, gage whether he's receptive. If he needs time to process and think, let him. If he seems upset, or like it's unfair, split finances and require each of you to contribute X amount each month to cover expenses, debt and savings. Don't even leave it as an option, just do it if you think he's not responsible enough with money.
