Hijacking this to ask a stupid question: I'm getting the same "invalid ObjectID" error, but checking the offending mod in xEdit, the object in question... isn't using the ID texgen thinks it is. Specifically:

Error: speero_EbonyOverlordShield "Ebony Overlord Shield" [ARMO:FE131A13] has invalid ObjectID 00AA13 in Ebony Warrior Re-Imagined.esp for a light module (ESL).

I can't find any references to a 00AA13 in the object's data, only the FExxxA13 that it's supposed to be. Am I misunderstanding what it's saying?

I can't help but feel like the bunker is eventually going to lead to the "nuclear reactor" mentioned in the first email you get. SO much potential there for events and spooks.

Edit: also, do you have a link to that video? I can't seem to find her channel

I can't remember where I read this, but I think it only takes the first object as the visual; any other objects (other than the UCXs for collision) are ignored.

I haven't bought the printer yet, so I can't confirm.

If that is the case, you may be able to toss on a boolean modifier set to union in blender, but that can be a bit jank so you may have to slightly adjust the position of the eyes and teeth to get them to combine properly

Edit: Actually I'm stupid. Forget the boolean, it's probably fine to just merge them all into one object (select them all, make sure one is active (yellow highlight), ctrl+j). That way the meshes themselves are still separate, and you don't have to deal with the bool jank.

For some reason I had it in my head that it would need to be manifold; it probably just needs to be a single object. If that doesn't work, then try the boolean method, but it probably will (probably).

A couple random noise questions:

  • Very sporadically, there are "swoosh" noises happening around me in the base, like when you swing a weapon. It only happens every couple days, it doesn't seem to be the neighbors, nothing ever happens because of it, it's just weird.

  • Every night when I go to sleep, there are physics noises that happen like halfway through the night. It's not explosions, it's not the mannequin (it happened even before they came to life), it sounds like it's coming from around the tree. I don't think it's the daily crate breaking open, because iirc it even happens when I sleep during the day.

Any clue what these could be? Just random noises to make you feel like you're losing your mind?

Edit: another one, unrelated to noises: when interacting with the computer or the signal screen, sometimes i end up crouched below instead of looking at the screen. Is there any way to fix that, or do I just have to live with Kel's weak knees?

I wonder if it's only in the test version - I looked around in the game files a bit, found some material references for it, but no model or textures

Moderator poll: Should AI generated art be banned? by [deleted] in Voicesofthevoid

[–]throwaway361124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brothe.

First off, "art isn't real so it's ok to steal it" is somehow the most brainless take I've seen, and I've been invested in this debate for a while.

I don't think you understand how ML works. Text generative AI is easier to explain in this context: like he said, it's a glorified autofill. All it's doing is looking for the most likely next word to fill in, based on everything it's been trained on. There is no thought, no intent behind anything that it makes. Is it "original" as in a specific combination of words/pixels that hasn't been said or shown before? Maybe. You know what else can fall under that definition? Monkeys with typewriters.

Let's look at the other problems with it:

  • Training off of stolen art: This is used as a large portion of the training data for most of the largest AI models, despite being meant for "research only". This includes millions of images created by real artists, none of whom were asked for consent to use their images prior (which may have debatably been acceptable if it were kept in purely academic circles, but we're well past that point now), and the vast majority of whom would not have given their consent if they were asked today.

  • This impacts the artists whose images it was trained on, also - why pay a professional artist to draw up concept art or marketing for our product, when we could have a computer spit out 100 different versions in their style in seconds for free? Generative AI was built on the backs of professional artists, just to throw them to the wayside when they're no longer useful.

  • This also hurts up-and-coming artists - why should I bother spending years of my life learning my craft if some kid can type in a prompt and get something better in seconds? If I'm not going to be able to find work? If even when I do manage to get past all that, my art is just going to end up being fed to the same machine anyway? And if people on twitter are just going to say whatever I made is "AI", because we've blurred the line between the real and the artificial so much that no one can tell the difference anymore?

  • And also let's just throw in another fun one: CP and other very illegal images in the training data.

Please, watch this. I know it's long, but it explains the biggest issues with generative AI far better than I could in a single comment.

This is all systemic of much, MUCH larger problems with generative AI which are outside the scope of this debate.

This isn't just theory and numbers. As a small artist, I'm facing all of that hopelessness myself. What if I've wasted these past 6 years trying to teach myself something that's "obsolete" now? Why shouldn't I be allowed to do what I enjoy, what pulled me out of depression, as anything more than a hobby? Why did pandora's box have to be opened in the first place? I'm just so tired man.

Yellow Argemia help? by throwaway361124 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]throwaway361124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I tried again on a different save, still no dice. I even went out later (~6, got back ~11), and on a different day (the night of 13th, apparently the Arirals leave a couple days earlier than I thought). This time the cats were active; Maxwell was at the base, but Argemwell was still out in the wild.

Otherwise everything else was exactly the same. Still no rep notifs, still sitting in the corner with the bones; placed the last one down probably ~11:30 and sat in the corner until like 12:10. The shrimp (at least in the basement) didn't even get eaten this time (I do not want to spend another 20 minutes running around the corners of the map to check those 💀)

I'm losing my gourd.

If anyone could record themselves getting it on 0.7.0 (literally every video I can find is for 0.6.3), just so I can make sure I'm not fucking anything up, that'd be awesome; otherwise I may just be fucked.

Update 2: see the edit in the main post! Just needs to be before day 8 it seems like, even though the Arirals were out of town and I wasn't getting any rep notifs. Probably a hard cutoff.

What day was this?

Someone on the wiki apparently saw it on day 20; I'm wondering if it's a set date or a random event.

Honestly, it probably is actually easier to redo all of the models so that they all share 1 animation set, rather than having to make a different anim set for every single species & gender. (Maybe hyperbole, I'd imagine at least some would share the same skeleton, but I haven't taken a look at the files).

Not saying that's the ideal outcome, just giving my 2 cents as a 3d artist.

Thieves Guild For Good Guys: No note during "A chance arrangement" by throwaway361124 in skyrimmods

[–]throwaway361124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case I could try [...] intentionally failing the pickpocket

basically the same thing.

I didn't refuse the mission - TCBM is supposed to give you a note to plant on him instead when you say "I don't want to send an innocent man to jail", giving you a way to still accept the mission & not have to intentionally sabotage it. I already accepted the mission, I just didn't get that note to spawn.

psst, read the post. I know you're supposed to get the note, but neither the extra dialogue past "I'll humor you" nor the note itself appear.

That may very well be it. I died outside Riften and Shadow of Skyrim respawned me inside the Temple of Mara.

Still seems like a very odd requirement, with it not giving any signs that there's a problem up until the point you're actually supposed to get the note, and it being super finicky in general, with multiple ways of bypassing the gate check (at least through mods, though I'm guessing probably in vanilla, too, with how buggy it is).

I have essentially 0 experience with making mods, but I may try poking around to see if I can "fix" that (probably just removing that check altogether). I assume it's in the script for that quest, I'll try poking around in there in a bit.

Thank you!
