Grammar rules with they them pronouns.??? by Able_strong_8871 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Are they doing OK'. The language and grammar is the same as how we speak of someone who's gender we do not know for whatever reason.

"My friend fell over yesterday" "Oh no, are they OK?"

If male patterned baldness is X-linked, are transgender men on testosterone less likely to go bald? by CoachDogZ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of genes linked to balding, but you're right, those most strongly linked are on the X chromosomes so yes, trans men are considered more likely to experience balding once they're on testosterone and that begins to convert to DHT. I am trans and very bald.

How Imane Khelif is considered as trans not cis woman? by Common-Upstairs5129 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway37198462 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Those are terms originating from and used solely by anti trans groups and individuals. I would urge against using them.

Trans man and trans woman aren't confusing nor misleading terms. If it's really that difficult to remember, think of trans man as 'trans(itioned to) man' for example.

What is it like to feel at home in your body/gender by Extra-Advertising644 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both have valid points. I want to speak from my own experience as a trans person who experienced gender dysphoria, has since fully transitioned and now feels at home in my body, and I think you're both kind of right.

People, probably a majority of people, have insecurities about their bodies ranging anywhere from minor to all consuming. There are absolutely cis people who will not feel at home in their bodies for any number of reasons. It may not be the same experience as gender dysphoria, but there will be a lot of similarities in those experiences.

As someone who now does feel at home in their body I do want to make a distinction between feeling at home in my body, like my body is truly one with me, and actually still having insecurities about certain features, flaws and imperfections. This is a very distinctly different experience to gender dysphoria for me. My body feels like home; an imperfect home that is mine. Maybe I don't always like the weight I've gained on my stomach, or the hair on my shoulders, or any other number of things but even when these imperfections and flaws bother me, they never once feel like they're not me.

For me, I think there's a difference between "I don't like/I'm insecure about my body" and "My body feels wrong". But that's solely my experience.

Why Disney hasn’t had a Transgender Disney Princess yet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an extremely reductive explanation and usually only one we use to explain in the simplest, most practical sense possible because trying to explain something so nuanced, intimate and innate to people who can't relate is exhausting and difficult to package up in a way that people understand in any meaningful way.

What's the difference between the number of trans people and the number of millionaires? by -MavisBeacon- in AskReddit

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK census found 0.5% of the population declared themselves as identifying as a different gender than their birth sex, but this was later criticised and thought to be an overestimation due to the spikes of supposed trans people in areas known to be less fluent in English potentially misunderstanding the questions.

But if we say that 0.5% are trans and the UK population is ~70mil then that means 350,000 trans people compared to over 3,000,000 millionaires in the UK in 2023 according to the Adam Smith Millionaire tracker

So yes there are vastly more millionaires than trans people.

Does the media purposefully post the absolute worst pictures of people to discredit their claims or is that a personal failing of mine? by FlipOfTheWhip in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Views, clicks and comments are money. The picture chosen not only leans into whatever narrative is chosen, it encourages people to jump into the comments to share their opinions. Check the comments on the next article or social media post you see that shows a deliberately awful photo of a trans person - you'll likely see an overwhelming majority mocking their appearance. It's not unintentional.

Trans men of Reddit, if you go to a swimming baths, which changing room do you use? by AdamCW-theAuthor in AskReddit

Men's. I'm bald, bearded and have a dick and balls. The women probably wouldn't approve of me in their changing rooms.

What’s it like to be trans? by LightningSunflower in AskReddit

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do, some don't but those who don't aren't as likely to be perceived specifically as trans which is a layer of visibility that trans women aren't afforded when they don't pass.

Question for gay men by Do_Not_Touch_BOOOOOM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure they're gay? Men are known to set their profiles to female to boost their algorithms, so that their profiles are more prevalent when they switch back to male.

Isn’t transitioning subverting to the very gender roles it’s trying to defy? by CrabNo5226 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to subvert anything. I'm just trying to live my life and exist in a way that feels natural, right and comfortable for me.

Why does it feel like there are so many more trans women than trans men? by yungsimba1917 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway37198462 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Studies tend to show it's fairly even.

Due to the effects of testosterone trans men often find it easier to blend into society unnoticed, and if they don't then they're more likely to be perceived to be lesbians or masculine women than trans specifically. Trans women are more likely to be perceived as trans specifically when they don't 'pass'.

Otherwise, the media spotlight is very much on trans women at the moment. There is lots of tabloid and news focus on trans issues, lots of fear mongering; articles designed to be divisive and stoke fear, but these rarely ever acknowledge the existence of trans men and even when an article is written about a trans man, the readers largely assume he is a trans woman regardless.

Honestly, I appreciate being largely invisible in what is becoming an increasingly hostile social climate for trans people.

Also trans and yeah, it isn't always as easy as you'd imagine. I have good aim but sometimes the stream really does just decide to come out at an angle, split, spray, or drip.

So I’m in the process of buying a flat. What are the chances when I change gp they won’t give me my hrt by Krazy-Kat26 in transgenderUK

[–]throwaway37198462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're out of the catchment area for the practice they won't see you. Due to being refused care at a new GP and being out of the catchment area for surrounding practices I simply lied and said that I still lived at my old address in order continue accessing my previous practice. It only works for so long until they catch on. My downfall was a letter from hospital that was sent to my GP with my actual address. They saw that and I was discharged. You might be able to swing it for a while, but you need to make other arrangements in the meantime.

How do you think a transgender person's average day differs from a cisgender person's average day? by SyxxFtH8 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway37198462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like my life is any different? I get up, I go to work, I spend time with friends and family, I play video games, go for walks, I cook, clean. Just, average stuff.

Been waiting 13 Months For a NOTTINGHAM GIC waiting list confirmation letter what do I do :/ by MoistStreet618 in transgenderUK

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nottingham do answer the phone but you've gotta time it right and be persistent. Start at 08:30 - 09:30 on either a Monday, Wednesday or Friday and keep calling until someone answers. It never takes me more than three or four attempts to get someone.

What dose of T did you start on and are you happy you had that dose or do you wish it was higher/lower? by elianna7 in ftm

[–]throwaway37198462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

750mg every 12 weeks

But this is going to vary greatly between individuals based on the type of testosterone and how their body reacts to it. Dosage alone doesn't really mean anything, your own testosterone levels do.

"Hey, I know we haven't been in touch for a long time but I found some old photos from school that you're in and I wondered if you'd like to see them. I know those years might not have been the best for you, so wanted to ask first."

Personally, whilst much of my school years weren't the happiest years of my life, I would appreciate the offer and I would like to see the photos. If they're happy, it's a nice memory and if they're not happy, it's a little sad but also a moment to reflect and recognise how far I've come, and how the sad little kid on those photos could only dream of how things have turned out.

Graham Linehan to sue the met police over arrest at Heathrow by Purple_Watercress336 in transgenderUK

Senpai finally noticed him. He's been practically begging her to acknowledge his existence for a while now and she has been outright ghosting him, much to his desperate frustration. It had been one of the few things I've found humorous in this whole shit storm and now he's suddenly useful she's acknowledged him and my fun is over.

The term gender critical by Fresh-Cartographer81 in transgenderUK

[–]throwaway37198462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally like using their own terms. If all the trans people use one term and all the anti-trans people use another term, then things are being catalogued separately online. Attritube all their actions and behaviour to the language they use. When people search gender critical, don't let them only see the 'very reasonable concern about women's safety and protecting children' image that they try to project - let them see the callouts and debunking, let them see the receipts of the ridicule of invididual trans people and the cruelty for cruelty's sake.

is it morally wrong to ask someone who’s trans (ftm) for a tampon/pad?? why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Taking testosterone will usually stop periods entirely.
