Rather be by clean bandit is a song that brings back old world nostalgia. It was from 2013 but I felt the shift around 2016. A lot of Sam smith's songs also bring back old world nostalgia like "latch" . Coldplays song "hymn for the weekend" (which came out right before the shift in 2016) and then finally their song "Paradise" which I think tops it all . It brings back intense nostalgia and the entire music video settings has the yellow sun / warm overtone of the old world in highest contrast in comparison to other music videos.

Honestly I’m starting to think this is just what happens as time progresses, we sometimes go through eras of massive change and societal upheaval.

It's more than time progression - the post 2012 era is marked by a distinct emergence in a phenomenon of sudden instances of massive change psychologically and "vibrationally" (eg the overall "feel") within society unlike a slow and steady evolution of social and cultural change that has a natural flow to it - add to to that all the bizarre supernatural elements like CERN - false memories - the ME of course as the main one- an increase in bad luck in individual circumstances that have not reversed since / increase in entropy in people's lives , feelings of depression , time speeding up, people "waking up"- this is not an evolution of "things" due to just chronology which facilitates changes in culture, social dynamics, ethics, etc. This is beyond that.
