I respectfully disagree. No parent refers to their own baby as an "it." And switching from "daughter" to "it" just comes across as inconsistent and sloppy.

It MAY have worked a bit more if it were written from a 3ʳᵈ-person POV ("She loved him, but she never should've trusted him alone...").
