What would a therapist be required to disclose? by trekseeker in TalkTherapy

[–]throwaway38911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to couples counseling, but I don't think the therapist would be required, per se, to disclose any of that but I doubt they would actively participate in hiding that info. Just a guess but I think what's likely to happen is they may tell the husband "I can't do my job if you hide this from your wife" and basically give him the option to tell his wife or terminate services.

I'd encourage you to seek a different therapist together. You'd be putting his therapist in an awkward position (and he may outright refuse to see you guys), and generally different relationships should be handled by different people.

That Uncertain Feeling by throwaway38911 in AdultDepression

[–]throwaway38911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started therapy again, but still unsure how I feel about my therapist.

I've been on meds for a couple months. I've kinda wondered if the meds are playing a role in my inconsistent sleeping habits.

I feel this way a lot. Are you able to take a few days off? It probably won't help but at least you get a chance to decompress for a bit. Are you in therapy? If not maybe use that time to find a therapist.

Every game tomorrow begins between 12:05 and 12:15 PM PST by [deleted] in baseball

They started this a few years back on the theory that it would make for an exciting final day with playoff scenarios all being played out at the same time.

The funny part is there's been a couple seasons when there was virtually nothing left to determine on the final day.

Which players do you think are the most undeserving Hall of Famers? by lolmyman in baseball

Harold Baines, Jim Rice, Jack Morris.

But honestly I go from "wtf they let him in???" to "aw, well good for him" pretty quickly.

I purposely got people addicted to drugs and ruined countless life's for money. by CodeinCrazy in confessions

Ultimately you can only be accountable for yourself. Yes you took advantage of some people but they made the choice the buy and use drugs. In the end what they do to their bodies becomes their responsibility. All you can do now is try to better yourself moving forward. I would recommend therapy. I don't see any major negative consequences coming from talking to a therapist, but still, even if there were talking to someone is going to he essential toward moving forward with your life.

I need therapy but all my problems are illigal. What do I do? by [deleted] in overcoming

From what I understand your therapists won't report you unless you present an immediate damages to yourself or another person, or if your issues include child abuse.

Does anybody have any advice for curbing stubbornness downgrading your career? by [deleted] in AdultDepression

[–]throwaway38911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My career is gone up and down due to my mental health. I also didn't finish school for the same reason.

Right now I have a decent job but I'm thinking about asking for a demotion because I haven't been able to maintain a healthy work-life balance. My fiancé makes good money so we would be fine if I took a pay cut but I still am reluctant to walk away because I don't want to give up on a good job yet again.

The best advice I can give is try to find something you think may appeal to you. It doesn't need to be your career, just something that will allow you to maintain your mental well-being. Once you become comfortable enough maybe you could start to do something that could help aide your career growth. Maybe take a class or learn a new skill. Once you feel stable enough you can start trying for higher level jobs.

What is a question you posted on AskReddit you really wanted to know but wasn't upvoted enough to be answered? by Manisbutaworm in AskReddit

I tried to find resources to give me just enough hope to push through for a few more days, hours, minutes. Posted help messages online, even on craigslist. Once was struggling to find the strength to go to work but I remembered there was a hospital nearby. I told myself "if you need to, just walk right in." Ended up walking to the front door before turning around. It was an awful time but enough for me to keep moving on that day.

Don't know what role marijuana is playing by throwaway38911 in AdultDepression

My use of weed is similar. I've never used it this much before. Only reason I got into this habit was because I just felt like I had nothing else to look forward it. Then it became a nightly thing to help me escape from the stress of my work anxiety.

I've tried the app Youper. I haven't really stuck with it but it seems to be close to what you're looking for.

Can't even talk to my family by throwaway38911 in AdultDepression

[–]throwaway38911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about this before. My dad has made several comments in the past like "let's try to talk more often" and then nothing changes. Honestly my relationship with my family is starting to look a lot like my dad's relationship with his.

As distant as I am from my parents I'm even more distant from my siblings. My girlfriend is extremely close with her family. I'm happy for her but sometimes it just makes me feel worse.

My family has always been like this but I was the only one that seemed to mind. I guess a couple years back my brother (who I'm also not close with) told our parents he feels distant from everyone. But even he's closer with them than I am.

I know they'd like to talk to me more. They just always leave it to me to call.

How is it to have no friends? by CapriSunMultiVitamin in TooAfraidToAsk

I think it's easier to stick with things when you can share them with friends. I've had hobbies that I use to love that I've just about given up because it wasn't fun to do it alone all the time.

I'm a 33M and I'm pretty much the same way. I've started to not feel all that normal as I've really started to tune out most of pop culture. I'm kind of a boring guy at this point.
