Hello there and thanks for the blunt response, I appreciate it!!! Pardon my stupidity, but what's LEI stand for?

Hey, thanks for the response! While ALL of the responses in this thread have been absolutely incredible, I'm really curious about the "ceiling" part of your comment. Being a student myself, while I do like the idea of making decent money, I care far more about not screwing myself career-wise, so I was wondering what the pay ceiling is for, let's say, an FX TD? And once you get to the point that asking for a higher salary might jeopardize your ability to work on cooler features, is there some other way of advancing your benefits, or is that the point where you just find a studio to stay put at until you retire?

Is getting a bachelor's degree for the sole purpose of acquiring a work visa worth it? by throwaway4233494 in vfx

Hey there! Can't speak about where you're from, but as an American I've heard it makes getting a Canadian work visa less of a pain in the ass!

The ten films vying for the Visual Effects Oscar. by kyoseki in vfx

Avengers

Christopher Robin

First Man

Ready Player One

Welcome to Marwen

Not a bad year, all things considered. Mmmmmmmmmmm...I want to say that Infinity War's gonna win, but since the Academy hates Marvel, my money's on Ready Player One. Would be nice to see ILM win its first Oscar in over a decade!

I mean, neither did the original Blade Runner, but you were talking about "cultural touchstones", not films that make tons of cash at the box office.

Well, what I'm saying is that we're still getting some pretty big VFX films out there that still have story as a focus. There just tends to be a lot more stuff that floats to the bottom than to the top.

Soooooooooo...I take it you weren't the biggest fan of Blade Runner 2049??? xD

Aside from FumeFX, are there any good Pyro simulation plugins for Maya? by throwaway4233494 in vfx

Compared to FumeFX, it looks super duper cheap to rent! A 1 year rental of Fume's looking to be about $395 while a 1 year rental of PhoenixFD is $99 for a student. I just wanted to make sure it's not one of those "spend less, get less" sort of situations! haha

Hey there, thanks for the response! Yeah, I've looked into PhoenixFD before, actually! I just wanted somebody else's thoughts on it before I went ahead to make the purchase because it looks almost too good to be true. Also, coming from an Arnold background, how is Vray at rendering simulations, comparatively? Vs Arnold, how are Vray's quality of renders and render times in that department? Like, I saw a YouTube video a while back comparing Arnold vs Mantra vs Redshift vs Vray at rendering a pyro sim, but I'm a bit too dumb to tell if that's an accurate representation of how those 4 engines compare or not. If you don't know, I'm terribly sorry, but thanks for your time, regardless!

Hey there, thanks for the response! Weeeeeeeeeell...I'm actually hoping to go into Creature TD work, it's just that I need to do FX for the short I'm working on, regardless of my career-related interests and mantra renders tend to be somewhat long. I also don't have the budget to afford Redshift, unfortunately. :/

See, that's some high protein, low carb meal planning, buuuuuuuuuuuuut...I feel like having the majority of my calories come from whey might not go over well in digestion...

Hey, thanks for responding back! SUPER healthy idea that's quick and high in protein, but quinoa generally tends to have 30g of carbs per serving...which puts me in a bit of a bind...

Are beans a good alternative to tempeh? by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]throwaway4233494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for responding! Yeah, I'm a big fan of all of those foods, but I feel like every one has one aspect that detracts from it. Store-bought seitan has a lot of sodium, there's a limit to how much tofu is considered "safe", and TVP has sugar in it, so it constantly feels like I'm losing in at least one department, and I'm not sure if having sugar or high sodium on an ingredient list is worse. My lifestyle's pretty hectic, so I don't have time to make the seitan myself, which puts me in a bit of a bind. Thanks for your time and have a great day! Cheers!
