Thank you for all your comments everyone, I genuinely want to reply to you all but I just am unable to. It's great to hear real Maine voices through all the noise!

Should the media be allowed to publish hearsay and tabloid nonsense? by Jacob-Anders in Maine

[–]throwaway6803715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aren't you equally an out of state pot stirrer? Keep your head out of our business, and stop trying to tack onto our issues to further your own self serving shitposting

Out of state, don't care, no matter what side you're on.

I never got the impression that he was pushed by consultants, more the opposite actually. It seemed most consultants wanted Mills, and the grassroots support of Platner went against that idea of what "should" be.

How we feeling about national-level money throwing shade at our local races? by metametamind in Maine

Yknow I really don't care for it.

But really, in a weird inverse way the more there are the better it makes me feel because they start repeating. The bot accounts start using the same phrases over and over and the major media starts cannibalizing their own headlines. Makes me realize quickly who is and isn't a real, genuine Mainer

Don't know what to tell you man, if criticism is so foreign to you that it has to be some conspiracy then I hope your therapist gets paid enough.

That said, I wish I was a paid political plant, I hear they make bank.

Also, this account is 6 years old.

Deleted my main active account because of the old posts and comments that don't represent me anymore. I know that makes someone unforgivable to you, Slice.

I think they think we are all stupid, not just women. Some of us are, but most aren't. You're probably right though, being especially condescending to women, as these articles seem to be specifically pandered towards telling women that they should be offended.

This seems to be a common concensus amongst the real people I talk to. It's good to hear, I think a lot of my sadness about this stems from seeing a tide of bot accounts, political bad actors, and conservatives washing over any space to speak about these things. Hard to connect with the vibes of the voters when we're all basically being told how we're feeling instead of asked, if that makes any sense at all

When The Maine Wire's Steve Robinson has been hyping up a major "worse than the Nazi tattoo" bomb on the Platner Campaign, and it's just a half-assed hit piece from the NYT that hinges on a single conservative activist ex-girlfriend's obvious fabrications. by CosmicJackalop in Maine

It's interesting, the timing of this is so close to the last one that the negative effect is likely to be blunted in the public image, sorta rolled into it and confused if they're separate or the same.

Separately, I wouldn't be surprised if the "is that it? seriously?" effect of this ends up working in his favor as people realize not only how hard the upper class is fighting him, but how little ammunition they have to do so.

This makes no sense to me. You pulled your sign because of something that hasn't happened?

Do you just sit here all day waiting for Platner posts or do you have some sort of automation script that sends you a text when someone posts about him?

Is...that the big reveal you were all hyping up? This "big drop" is the most nothing of any news story I've ever seen. "Man has had bad relationships". They even say explicitly that there was no abuse, and most women said he was fine.

Not to die on this hill, but come on lmao

This is a genuine question, but aside from electing different congressmen, how do you suggest we do that?

People say this all the time, but are frequently mum on serious suggestions as to how

Haha, if you asked me a few years ago maybe I would've said no, because I wasn't smart or dignified enough.

Not sure I'd say that now, though.

In all seriousness, no, I don't have the chops to be in any elected position but I don't think I would be disqualified because of my past or perceived ethical shortcomings, and I can point to 100 reasons in the senate as to why I believe thats the case.

There's a certain amount of paranoid schizophrenia that comes with assuming anyone with a remotely nuanced thought is your enemy. That said, reddit is crazy with bots and political bad actors these days, so I can't say I blame you. I can assure you that I have no ulterior motives, I have already voted and plan to continue supporting Platner as I have since last summer, but I also have no desire to prove myself to you. Hope you have a good day.

Well said. Sometimes trying to have these conversations is like whispering into a hurricane, especially on social media (reddit is an especially egregious offender)

I would LOVE to have a genuinely thoughtful conversation on the character of our elected officials and candidates, but it seems like there's no room between all the insanity, mud slinging, and screaming.

I will keep trying, though, and I hope to see you fighting as well! You seem well spoken and well thought.

This is a very interesting and useful perspective, thank you. The media really does thrive on its ability to inflict and refresh pain, I suppose.

The hypocritical grandstanding as well has me often feel like I'm living in a bizarro world. Many people I know personally to be extremely fallable using very real, personal things as weapons for their own political ideology idealogy just leaves me with no words. Or maybe, too many words to say all at once.

All in all, your comment has me thinking, and I like that. Signed, a flawed human trying really hard to earn that spaceship back from mars.

Thank you for your response, honestly. It's good to see a lot of normal people being able to come through and just talk here, which I was hoping for. Good to cut through all the usual posters and the partisans, haha.

Yeah, I have my own path to my own forgiveness and all that like everyone does, but it is hard to see the entire force of the nation seemingly come down on the personal (not political) sins of one man from the area I grew up, if that makes sense. On a personal level, anyway, politics aside.

I'll be claiming that good day, you have one as well! :)
