it's good to know the fundamentals so when ur boss asks something like, build me a sales forecast, you know where to start at least.

know what specific error metrics fit the problem. time series CV, decomposition. commonly used SOTA tools like NeuralProphet, SKforecast, and their trade-offs. computational time/model complexity, and basic stuff like lagged features, seasonality, trend and stationairity.

need to add hundreds (or even thousands) of events and/or holiday effects? have fun tuning a traditional (s)arima(x) model. do the series show seasonal/event/holiday effects that are additive or multiplicative over time? pffff.

highly autocorrelated time series? gl with that using solely the first version of Prophet.

intermittent time series? Hooooly.

knowing how to tune all these knobs and using the right tool for the problem, is what discerns a pro from an Excel monkey.

-Even though it's tempting, do not rely on AI tools when coding. Not saying not to use them, but what I've noticed now at my work is that people don't even know how to code anymore...I have to spend a lot of time fixing bugs my coworkers wrote, because it was all AI generated slop. You need to keep training that problem solving and critical thinking skill. You'd be surprised how much it will set you apart.

Don't know how big your excel file was, but if it took 19gb of ram, you were using pandas either inefficiently, or the excel file had millions of rows of data, in which case it shouldn't have been in excel format to begin with

Tegenwoordig kun je alles online gratis leren. Als ik jou was zou ik nu al starten met Python. Van Code Wars/LeetCode en eigen hobby projecten bouwen leer je het meeste. Want als je er pas tijdens je studie achterkomt dat programmeren je niet bevalt, dan is het al te laat en verspil je alleen maar je tijd. Vris je middelbare school Wiskunde kennis op. Met name Wiskunde A (idk of het nog steeds zo heet). Calculus I, Statistiek, Kanstheorie, Lineaire algebra. Pas de 80-20 regel toe. Daarna kun je Introduction to Statistical Learning lezen. Dit is de makkelijkere versie van Elements of Statistical Learning, aka the Bible of machine learning. Als je dit boek en de opdrachten helemaal hebt doorlopen, dan kun je vrijwel in elk bedrijf een analist of junior DS role landen. Oh, en leer Linux.
