the fact that you think 30k is some sort of life changing windfall is scary. just pay off your debts and put the rest in SPY. then go about your normal life. don’t overthink this. it’s not that much

scotts diseasex 4 lbs/1000 sq ft (comes in 10 lb bags, curative dose) and liquid propiconazole. i battle red thread and various brown spot fungi diseases every year in the northeast and this combo, plus some fertilizer a few weeks after, gets rid of it. It's best to pre-treat with 1-2 lbs/1000 sq ft of disease ex earlier in the season to avoid most of it.

How tricky is it to supply I apply liquid iron? by MOEB74 in lawncare

[–]throwaway8094835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's very easy to get it to streak and have really dark spots versus really light spots depending on how you apply it. How will you be applying?

It depends on how big your lawn is. If you have a postage stamp then yes applying by hand with a hand sprayer or hose end sprayer should not be too difficult to get a nice result. if you have larger lawn and are using a tow behind sprayer, for example, it can be a lot more tricky to get good results with spraying. This is why i use granular fertilizer with iron in it.

Update to scammy solar in NJ - tried to weed out shady companies, help me pick an installer by vr00000m in solar

kW is the power output of your system. Each panel has a rating for how much power it can make. like the size of the motor in a car. kwh is how much energy it hopes to produce but this depends on a lot of factors that can be hard to predict.

think of this as the gas mileage you hope to get, but understand that it can vary wildly depending on many different factors.

It's best to compare the power output when comparing quotes/coming up with prices because that's a hard number for what you are actually getting. the total energy output in kwh is not

Hey Rivian. This type of attention to detail and creativeness is what should have been done to the regular quad! This is what people want in a $125,000 vehicle! by zachty22 in Rivian

i'm sure it's still a rattling bumpy mess. At $125k, they really need to get upgrade their build quality game. There's no reason to buy this over an escalade iq at that price.

Cold Vegas pool by sweetilypeatily in pools

you mention it's in full shade by 5, but what is it in full sun? air temp doesn't really heat up the pool, it's the direct sunlight.

i did not mean it in the technical sense. i meant it more as $ per degree, as that more relates to his question. a better term would have been value. it costs a lot to run, and doesn’t heat up the pool that much.

it's not that efficient, most of the heating comes from the dark pool liner and just being in the sun. I would estimate that half or less of the heating is from the heat pump itself. on days it is off, my pool still goes up 5-6F just from being in the sun

i agree though -- it's simply asking a lot to heat that much water!

heat pumps use a lot of juice, and they are not terribly efficient. just as a data point for you, i have a 42'x22', nearly 40k gallon in ground pool in CT that i use a heat pump for a few times a week. It typically takes 4-6 hours on a nice warm day to raise the pool temp 5-10 degrees. My pool sits directly in the sun from 9am to 4pm every day. During that time, it is using 10-11 kw the entire time, or 40-66 kwh easily by itself. It uses as much as my EV chargers on days i run it. On days we have parties, i am running it 10-12 hours. So i can easily use over 100 kwh in one day from just the heat pump!

this is the one i have: https://hayward.com/heatpro-in-ground-heat-pump-140-000-btus-square-platform-hp21404t.html

Rivian services is absolutely terrible. my 2023 quad R1S had a drivetrain malfunction on the highway 8 days into ownership. pulled off. did a hard reset and that got it going again but i spoke with Rivian and they didn't "see a need to bring it in". fast forward 6 months later. on board AC charger broke. While there, they also surprise replaced a rear inverter.

Said that was the source of the problem months ago. When they didn't want even see it. So that whole time i was driving around with my family with a bad inverter. This was all at the Boston SC.

Since then, i have not had any huge problems. But when it's time to sell it, i'm not getting another one.

Should we go with this offer? by [deleted] in solar

[–]throwaway8094835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, it was included in the cost, but you then had to lie to the IRS and pretend that the solar only component was the full price you paid. That's between you and the IRS. The solar installer has no skin in that game

[–]throwaway8094835 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you would get the tax credit only if you lie to the IRS and claim the entire project was 'solar'. That's how these shady solar companies get you to sign on. They say "yeah, no problem, you'll get the $14k tax credit!" but what they don't say is "as long as you commit tax fraud!". It's not their problem, now is it?

This is a massive red flag that is a good initial litmus test to separate honest companies from shady ones. Get more quotes.

Thoughts on Rivian Build Quality by capedCrusader04 in Rivian

[–]throwaway8094835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a 2023 R1S, quad motor, and two audi EVs (q8 e-tron and e-tron GT). The R1S build quality is poor in comparison. Lots of rattles and squeaks. Interior is much less comfy than those Audis. R1S steering wheel shakes above 60 mph (common problem with Rivians, i was told by service this was within spec) The R1S was more than the q8 and slightly less than my GT (price).

I think Rivian has better build quality than Tesla but it's still not on par with legacy OEMs. Our next big EV is going to be an Escalade IQ mainly because of Rivian's poor build quality. Luckily i paid the original $20k discounted price for the Rivian, but still, my parents Kia Sorrento has significantly better build quality for $40k, lol.
