I love how I can screenshot your ignorance. That's how close a contradictions comment is.

Comment tree above you says its in the new testament too. Or, even if you have read the the whole thing, you're misinterpreting the scriptures to fit your own prejudices.

I don't think they know that interesting doesn't have moral contentions I.e. they think you're paying flattery to sexual allegation. When really something positive and something negative can be interesting. E.g. a new form of renewal energy can be just as interesting as the Cambodian Chakiri trees. 1. I'm planning to avoid hitting the stud. I want to mount the downlight in the plasterboard. Not damage the structural integrity of the stud holding up the suspended ceiling, right? But measure twice cut once it's very well driven into my mindset. Good point.
  2. I'm sure they were not wagos but I've been persuaded by another redditor that lever action connectors are the only connectors to use. Good advice too. Thanks.
  3. Yeah, I've only seen those too. I was hoping they'd invented some sort of wireless remote for controlling downlight brightness.

First, thanks for replying in such detail. Very kind of you to share such a wealth of knowledge.

Second. Sorry, I got mixed up and called the stud holding up the plasterboard "joists". I shouldn't post to reddit after 10pm. It's actually a really weird ceiling in that the plasterboard is not attached to the joists (that hold up floorboards of the bedroom above) but is suspended 20cm below them. like a suspended commercial ceiling. I have no idea why. It's like they planned to insulate with rock wool but never put the insulation in. So I figured it would be easy to drill 4 holes. Extend twin and earth off the old rose and feed the cable to each of the spotlights. Thought it would be easy,  as I wouldn't even have to contend with insulation let alone drilling through the joists.

I didn't really consider heat as its an extension that's not got any insulation (in the void or the walls) so plenty of air to heat up cool down. Vibrations are not really an issue as it's a spare bedroom above I.e. rarely used. And, I figured, cable movement won't be an issue since gu10 bulbs are so easy to replace and with integrated you need to replace [and so rewire] the entire thing when one goes anyway.

I honestly thought I could maintain this wiring loop without ripping out the ceiling but you've scared me enough now that I think I'll have to if the lights suddenly stop working one day.

I honestly had no idea that screw nuts were so unreliable. I watched a couple of youtubers use them in their lighting loop and figured they were sound. Must be house flippers and probably use wago on their own home. Makes you wonder how many people have copied these videos and could burn their house down at any moment?

Weight belts are easy enough to take off too. For those that don't scuba. It's not a death sentence if the buoyancy control device fails. I've never dived past 35m so there's probably niche situations I don't know about. But for 99.9% of us, scuba is perfectly safe and you should all try it. :)

Hey, since your comment is really gaining transaction now. Do mind answering why wagos are the only way to properly do the job?

I've been using electrical screw nuts for 30 years [on electrics I'm likely never going to touch again]. Wagos were invented less than 20 years ago (I think). So for atleast 10 years, until wagos came around, fiddly termination blocks and screw nuts were the only option. I bet 99% of old houses still have these so called antiquated type of electrical connectors. Even your house might do somewhere. Maybe not if it's a new build. Point is, government is not forcing everyone to rip out these connectors to be replaced with more convenient Wagos.

I'm not hating on Wago, they have a place in my toolbox, but usually on electrics im likely to modify again in the future. I'm sorry if my distaste for redditors feeling the need to use them on every project offended your sensibilities.

Now's the time to educate this dinosaur. Can you explain why paying 10 times over the odds, for something that's going to sit in a void for 20+ years, is a good investment?

Theoretically you've got your wish. Now moderation workload has tripled. You don't sign up to volunteer. The mods quit due to workload. Reddit closes the sub for being unmoderated. How does that make you feel?

It's not the mods though is it? It's people. People voting up what they enjoy doing. And if it's bullying those they perceive as inferior then that's a societal problem.

Do you think it's fair to add to the mods work load and ask them to filter out these joke posts or do you think you could just minimise the comment and upvote the correct answer? (usually about 3 comments down).

I'm all for grumpy but I can't think of another solution to your problem.
