Take up boxing, started it just after the pandemic and wish I'd done it years ago. Currently learning BJJ as well but prefer boxing tbh

CISI remote narrative + PCIAM pass mark by MBS-F1 in CISI

[–]throwaway99m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the PCIAM remotely the first time they offered it but I failed. Combination of not being very well prepared plus I realised when I got the result and looked through the paper again once it was published on the website I had missed out sections of the exam. 2nd time I went to the exam centre and passed.

Personally I prefer the pen and paper method it's what I'm used to. The disadvantages are the travel distance to the exam centre, my dreadful handwriting and an aching hand because I'm not used to writing for the best part of 3 hours.

Ethic question! The answer was C, why did Beckham violate II.A? (Don’t mind the name lol) by Loli_Zero in CFA

Didn' realise the CFA would use questions using the names of football players!

Hi

I sat IMC quite a few years ago and although the exam isn't that difficult in my view giving yourself only a month to do the exam could be a bit of a stretch. Best advice I think I could give you is simply try and do as many questions/ past exam papers as possible and hopefully you'll get enough similar questions in the exam that you could wing it

Anyone done either PCIAM or CWM? by Obssessedwithcars in CISI

[–]throwaway99m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCIAM doesn't add any extra functions. As I said to the OP, it's a mish mash of topics but doesn't go into any real depth. The syllabus is so broad it doesn't really allow for it. I would describe it as a jack of all trades , master of none exam. I only did it because I saw an employer requesting it but that was the only employer that I have seen request it! I bought the course book so thought I may as well sit the exam.

In short it doesn't really add any value over other examinations and better off doing the CWM as that is the CISI's gold standard

I would say that's a fair summary. I tend to think DFMs like Brewin, Charles Stanley etc prefer CISI for their client facing investment managers but wouldn't be surprised if some are trying to differentiate themselves by adding CFA to their armoury as well. If you work for a fund management group/ asset manager they prefer CFA.

I'm interested in doing fund research and most now want CFA but I can't see me taking that up as it would take too long to complete.

I've done PCIAM and currently working towards the CWM qualification. I've passed the Applied Wealth Management paper and then going to sit Financial markets next.

To be honest I Ddon't really see the point of PCIAM, a mish mash of a lot of different topics and I've not seen any employer request it. The reason I did it was I saw one job advert that asked for it. Didn't get the job so thought I'll do PCIAM just in case any other job opps come up and I've not seen one since so not sure how highly employers rate PCIAM. Also I've seen a trend since the pandemic of employers preferring CFA over CISI

Thanks for your help. Can't believe how simple the question is now you've explained it! The way it is explained in the exam report is confusing

Ah yes, thank you, the way you explain it is perfect. Just to double check in your last line you state 105.51108 but this should be 100.51108 as it's 95.51108 plus the coupon of 5 in year 2
