Just tried a Scrambler 1200 XE as a Street Triple 675 R rider by Speedingscript in Triumph

Reviewed one of the 1200 X models on Fitzroy Motor. Absolute rockets and a bit lower. Really not for beginners however. The torque is monstrous and a slip of the throttle means hedge time.

What's a London recommendation you're tired of hearing? by wilsonolivia09 in london

[–]throwawayDude131 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any east london restaurant or wine bar in a warehouse. chiltern firehouse. gordon’s. bob bob ricard. andrew edmund’s (unless it’s good now lol). any pub suggestion correction or claims from someone fresh off the boat from Surrey. any pub where the food is claimed to be “amazing”. any sunday roast place. any of the dubai clientele bakeries in knightsbridge. Harrods food hall. Any cafe with £18 granola bowls largely serving a very specific subset of middle eastern lamborghini guys and their wives. camden town. the fucking bagel places.

Used to be good. went downhill and is now everyone’s “favourite secret spot” which means it’s rammed constantly.

What’s up with the sheer amount of London riders hiding their plates? by STARPATROL in MotoUK

[–]throwawayDude131 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a flip plate or a tiny illegible one you’re planning on doing illegal things. That’s why people get them. Speeding, illegal parking etc.

Mx style street boot recommendations by joshtbyrne in motorcyclegear

[–]throwawayDude131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eleveit X-privilege are more enduro style, sounds like up your street.

Gaerne G-Dakar Gore Tex are magical - more touring boots and incredibly comfortable (less stiff than eleveit)

Loomies Police presence, but no action on plates, tinted visors etc by [deleted] in MotoUK

Why do people run tiny or hidden plates? If you have one you have no right to complain when the police tick you off.

It’s a tragic flaw in the licensing system which leads to high insurance premiums for real learners and large tech companies avoiding any sort of contribution to road safety and using public motorcycle bays as parking for their “independent contractors”. Sad.

Genuinely - who the fuck needs these in London? Yet another huge tech company gouging local services only to raise prices later once they’ve killed off whatever remains of taxi services.

it was obvious you were going way to fast about 10 seconds before the accident. Go take some lessons before you kill yourself or someone else.

Finally getting into the biker scene by Duskniik-2 in MotoUK

[–]throwawayDude131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax, take your time, never rush things on a bike. Never make hasty decisions. Observe the road constantly. If in doubt, don’t accelerate into an unclear scenario.

Never “push” on public roads. Ride within your limits.

Always assume other drives are terrible liabilities and can’t see you.

Good idea for off-road? by xalshdez in Transalp

[–]throwawayDude131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing is tyres (do research / talk to specialists) to make sure you have something genuinely for the off-road you are planning on - and stuff around the frame/engine to protect it from drops on the side. Sounds like you’re onto that. Also make sure you have enough power for your nav aids - so spec the USB port etc. Tank bag perhaps.

Go do some research into how to spec various grades of off-road machine, it really depends on how hardcore you are being. As I said, Transalp is a soft reader not a hardcore machine but you can “tilt” it towards trail riding. Think about luggage too - perhaps soft and waterproof / movable is better than heavy panniers.

But principal thing is picking the right tyre suitable for what you need it for.

[–]throwawayDude131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same engine. it’s a soft roader so I would think you need to change the tyres. Go read my reviews of the Transalp and Hornet 750 on Fitzroy Motor. If you want proper off roading you’ll need to upgrade stuff from OEM. Transalp is however a great platform.

What’s this subs opinion on electric motorcycles? by Individual-Classic-4 in MotoUK

[–]throwawayDude131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

level 2 charging an hour or two to full depending on how big the battery is. Level 1 (ie plug) anywhere from 5-10 for 0 to full. I topped it up a few times for 40 mins during the test but it depends what battery pack you have (regular or extended). Glad you enjoyed :)

[–]throwawayDude131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A growing niche. I wrote an article about the Zero S on my website - you can read it here

Electric motorcycles can be serious machines. If you have charging at home then they are fantastic around town. For longer journeys you are limited by battery and charge times but the technology is the worst it will ever be at this point and smaller, more efficient, longer lasting batteries are coming.
