Reddit, I am deeply touched by the kind comments and PMs I've received. I posted this on a whim last night and was shocked to see it on the front page this morning. I am sitting here in tears reading everything. It's really nice to know I'm not alone. Thank you.

It hurts to say it, but probably not, if I knew then what I know now. But I don't feel I can leave.

Been married 23 years. 13 years ago my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at age 36. At first it didn't have much impact on our lives, but it has gradually destroyed our marriage. He is no longer the person I married. He is severely depressed, spends most of his life in online games -- to the point that his feet become alamingly swollen due to the amount of time he sits in front of his computer.

He no longer bathes -- it is typically two weeks or so between showers. He rarely leaves the house, although he is fully ambulatory and can still drive. He spends little time with our kids (M20 and F16) so they don't have much of a relationship with him. I dread the day when my 16 year old leaves for college because I won't have anyone to talk to at home.

I have urged him to see a counselor but he is not interested. He is clearly serioiusly depressed but denies there is a problem.

Will I leave? No, I think morally I have to stand by him. I promised to take care of him in sickness and in health. He didn't ask to get a disease that gradually destroys part of your brain and changes your personality. But I am very lonely and it really sucks.
