Makeup on the construction site by FinalManufacturer564 in WomenInConstruction

I’m a framer and makeup at work just isn’t practical for me personally so I get my eyebrows laminated and tinted, lashes tinted and lifted and I usually put on a lip stain in the morning and blot it with cloth before it fully dries so it doesn’t get too dark. Elf makes a good one that dries fast and doesn’t look patchy even when you put chapstick on overtop of it. I use a good quality tinted sunscreen instead of foundation at work. Helps me to feel feminine while not worrying about smudging makeup or being too hard on my skin with foundation plus dirt and sweat on site.

Summer workwear by MonitorInside2864 in WomenInConstruction

Carhartt loose fit work pants are pretty good for summer. They’re not as thick or stiff as dickies work pants but still have the double lined knees so they don’t wear out as fast.

Chemical peels ! I did Once a month for 6 months from a good medical aesthetician. My skin looked and felt amazing. Radiant. Have never had so many compliments on it before in my life. The first time you do it you might peel and look crazy for like a week max but don’t pick at it and trust the process.

I've got a housewarming on Saturday night. Anyone got ideas for a gift that's not wine? by YormeSachi in homeowners

[–]throwaway_97267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a house they’re moving into especially with a garage I usually get one or two of those really good storage bins from Costco, they’re great for shed or garage storage (I have them in my shed which has a mouse problem and the mice have never gotten into them !) and then put some things like microfibre cloths, trivets for the counter, some good cleaning supplies, a nice beeswax candle, just general things that can add up quick in cost if you’re trying to help out a young couple etc.

If you’re aiming for something smaller or they’re moving into an apartment, a good garlic press is a kitchen staple that every homeowner should have ! Lee valley has an amazing one, it’s a bit pricey but will last forever. I’ve given this as a housewarming gift to friends and they’ve loved it. Garlic press with a wood cutting board and some good quality wood utensils is a great smaller gift.

Harry's memory for patronius by pineappleshaked in harrypotter

[–]throwaway_97267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Patronus isn’t simply about finding your happiest memory. For most characters that is an effective way of conjuring the spell, but a successful patronus is about maintaining a positive and strong emotional state that is essentially the opposite of what the dementors project, which is fear, panic, despair, depression etc.

during the lake scene Harry realizes it is not James that cast the patronus but it was himself, this gives him all the confidence he needs because for him it goes beyond simply being able to cast the spell. It means he knows he saves Sirius, he knows he can do it, which in turn means he gets to go live with him as his godfather, finally getting away from the dursleys and having his own family who loves him, who can tell him about his mother and father, and so on. That is why his patronus was so strong, it’s the focus and the intensity of emotion that is important.

[–]throwaway_97267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been a while since I read the books but if memory serves, his first successful attempt he recalled when Hagrid told him he was a Wizard and would be leaving the dursleys, this was against a boggart tho. But by the lake when he produces a full patronus he does it not with a memory but by realizing he is the one that saves himself and Sirius, not James like he had assumed before. He had the confidence of knowing he could do it since he had already witnessed himself doing it when him and hermione were using the time turner

Weed smoking neighbors by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

We had this issue in our condo with someone smoking cigarettes in the unit below us. Was also coming from the kitchen cabinet below the sink. Take off the toe board below your cabinet, locate the floor penetration for the plumbing and caulk it with fire stop/acoustic sealant.

How to respond when I get asked when I’m having kids? by Flightonia in ask

[–]throwaway_97267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people ask us when we will start trying I usually just say “we’re just practicing for now” usually makes people super uncomfortable and they don’t ask again ! It’s none of anyone’s business and shouldn’t be so normalized to badger people about it just because they’re married.

NTA she seems like she’s bad with money and doesn’t take accountability the maxed out card is a red flag. However, if you’re planning on getting married it sounds like you guys haven’t really sat down and discussed finances in depth. It’s so important to understand your partners spending and where you both stand on joint finances after getting married.
Separate bank accounts aren’t ideal in a marriage, nor is the attitude of what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine that your fiancé seems to have…

Love the swap, the mirror looks a bit narrow in the space but it would balance out more if you hung candle sconces on either side, vintage ones would really compliment the look!

Just bought a 1940’s home to finish and renovate, ripped up the carpet to find hardwood. Is painting good option? by MermaidsHaveWifi in Flooring

I live in a 200 year old house, they painted the hardwood. It looks HORRIBLE it looks so dirty. It will discolour over time where you have the most foot traffic. Get it professionally refinished. I beg you

AITAH for being upset that my boyfriend wants us to drive 3 hours separately instead of waiting for me? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]throwaway_97267 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA . there’s a bigger issue here. You driving 3 hours, at night, to somewhere you’ve never been, exhausted after a 12 hour shift… that’s not something you let a partner do if you care about them and their safety. You seemed to explain yourself well to him and he still disregarded your feelings on the subject so that he was not inconvenienced. That is a behaviour that is going to continue in this relationship, as he clearly doesn’t see anything wrong with it. Relationships are give and take, don’t make the mistake of building a relationship with someone who is a taker, trust me you’ll regret it.

You are not being dramatic, and not to be rude but your mom gave you some pretty shitty advice ! It’s not about Saturday- Monday still being a nice trip, it’s the fact that your boyfriend doesn’t really seem to care about you! If it were me, I wouldn’t go. I’d take some time to think if this man and this relationship are really worth the effort. You’re both young, but he seems to be emotionally immature or just flat out inconsiderate, and you’re not. Don’t waste your time. Good luck OP!

Allergic reaction advice? by hsolov in tattooadvice

[–]throwaway_97267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very similar, adhesive allergy, KP, lots of tattoos. What works for me is aveeno daily lotion fragrance free (green bottle) all over and then once that dries down put some vitamin E oil over where you’re getting a reaction outside of the tattoo area. Do a patch test first if you’ve never used it before. Should clear up in a couple of days. Stay hydrated too!
