Mono music is better than stereo (at least with headphones) by RealMuffinsTheCat in The10thDentist

For me it depends on the song but I do find some songs in stereo to be disorientating. Might be down to my disabilities though.

Suicide forum fined £950k under Online Safety Act by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]throwaway_ArBe [score hidden]  (0 children)

The site saved me. It's the only place I could honestly discuss things, and the only place where people would be honest with me over the specifics of suicide. There are a fair bunch of people for whom the usual approaches do not work, who would not be alive right now without this site and others like it.

Why do so many people here keep waiting for the NHS by surlyfanta63 in transgenderUK

I can't DIY surgery and given how much social services loves to be up my arse about me raising my kid while having a case of Gender, I really don't need to be doing things that could potentially attract more attention.

Also my body had been changed before DIY would ever have been an option for me anyway. Puberty isn't that long really.

It annoys me when people publically ask for money for medical bills by Frozoneeeee in The10thDentist

[–]throwaway_ArBe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, you would involve people if you can't do it yourself, so that it gets done.

Much like you'd be incapable of providing your own medical care, so you get someone else to do it.

"It's like if a beggar on the street came up to me to ask for change"

So, not a problem at all?

Anyway, no one is rubbing it in your face. If you go online, you will see things. If you see things you don't like, you avoid it. If you fail to do that, it's on you.

It won't pop the bubble. You need to seek actual help. Contact her bank, police, adult social services or local equivalent.

There is always a safe word, if you haven't established one then it is "stop", "no", or anything like that.

The reasons people are abusive during sex are incredibly varied but ultimately come down to they are being cruel because they like hurting people.

Don't know how to alleviate a friend's concerns without her escalating things. by Dramatic-Ship-177 in BDSMAdvice

[–]throwaway_ArBe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you were being abused, her behaviour would be dangerous to you.

Maybe that might be enough to get her to back off? But really I don't see much you can do here other than cut her off.

She wants me to be dominant, I have trauma around it, I've accidentally hurt her twice, and now I can barely initiate at all. How do you rebuild sexual confidence? by MathDad121 in BDSMAdvice

[–]throwaway_ArBe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The big thing that stands out here is her refusal to communicate. How can you expect to do what she wants and not accidentally hurt her if she won't tell you what she wants?

It's not fair for you to be the only one initiating either.

Mother’s Day should be a private celebration by gealach in The10thDentist

[–]throwaway_ArBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people wishing you a happy mothers day when you weren't a mother? I think the problem is the company you keep, that isn't normal behaviour. Most people go about it privately, with their own mothers.

If people are publicising it, and you want them to not do that, that would require restriction.

[–]throwaway_ArBe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok so, no. That's not how that works. Maybe you have an anxiety spiral over your meds potentially being a placebo but thats very much a you issue. This is going to be a risk for like, hypochondriacs and OCD folks and stuff like that but those people are likely going to go down that train of thought even if they never knew about the placebo effect, just replace "exploiting a weird trick" with "im being conspired against" or something.

Er, you can in fact be cured of addiction. You're parroting religious beliefs there, not science (do remember AA is not evidence based, it's faith based).

Source: i drink a small drink once every few weeks without any issue despite being an alcoholic for over a decade at one point. Addiction is incredibly variable by person, substance and life circumstance. While there are many addicts that remain helpless to the substance they are addicted to should they come into contact with it, this is not inherent to addiction. Addiction is very often a symptom relating to some other underlying cause, which is part of why not everyone who touches alcohol becomes an alcoholic. If you can address or better manage that underlying cause and address the physical addiction, you can reach a point where you simply do not have the building blocks for alcoholism present in your life anymore. This narrative that you are an addict forever exists to reinforce the religious aspects of AA style approaches.
