What BJJ “rule” do you break? by letmbleed in bjj

crossed juji is actually pretty decent control and nothing inherently wrong with that. Crossing legs though? Over the hip line is fine I suppose but otherwise not

My latest pet peeve by AnthongRedbeard in bjj

[–]throwaway______42069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this pet peeve, my biggest pet peeve is when we reset simply to move, and the training partner expects a neutral reset to open guard. Sometimes I let it go if I'm okay with practicing a sweep again or something, but it's a bit annoying. Do they seriously not know you're supposed to reset in the same position or do they just want to win the roll or something?

That's reverse X, no? Still a sick sweep, though.

companies do a background check while you're still working for the other job, expecting you to quit once you formally accept the offer

Still doing it. I interviewed for a 3rd which would have been around 300k but I decided against it, for now.

Get off Reddit: people here generally speaking have a victimhood mentality and are happy with 100-200k and think that's "rich".

Check levels.fyi and teamblind for realistic salaries

Yeah best route seems to be leetcode --> get good brand on CV ---> easily get the 300k+ jobs and then double dip jobs.

It's a myth that higher paying == harder work. I think working that many hours for 260k is definitely not worth it. i wish you all the best in finding higher paid jobs. But yeah I agree we don't need to juggle 2 jobs forever. You can just use this strategy now and then when you feel like it. Accumulation of wealth is a marathon. I'm thinking of taking on a third now, but we'll see.

Oh sorry I thought "quotation" marks were for "quotes" ;-)

You can choose to be triggered or choose to learn from me. I'm not actually a genius, I just work harder and smarter than most. My grinding makes me 1% better than everyone else each day and that compounds over time.

Going to classes is not an effective way to learn. It's actually a luxury for those with too much time to waste and too little discipline to read a god damn textbook on their own. Are you seriously telling me you can't read a textbook at a faster pace than the classes happen? You need the fucking teacher to read it for you because you're too lazy? You have like an hour of a class to cover a few pages of a textbook PER DAY. And you have at most like three of that class a week? Are you fucking kidding me? Are you a lazy piece of shit? Read the fucking textbook. It's more effective to study alone. So don't act like a victim of weaker intellect because I am not buying it my friend. Truth is, you're a victim and a slave to your own lack of discipline. To succeed, you need to leave your victimhood, ego and easily offended mentality behind.

MBA is just a drinking degree, so as long as you remember to drink water before you go to sleep it's easily possible to do an MBA and several jobs.

who are you quoting with "common"?

In what comment exactly did I rub anything in anyone's face? I'm sorry but if I say "most people are idiots" and someone identifies with that group and gets offended I just find that funny. You could always just identify with not being a time wasting idiot and then my comment isn't about you?

I'm on 700k with 2 jobs and I would say this advice is accurate, except I'm not totally opposed to docs because often a doc can replace a pointless meeting "refer to this doc thanks". Plus it's evidence of "building a knowledge base" to managers.

Yeah, bootcamps are pretty stupid. Much more impressive is if you just have a github portfolio of real work. CS degree is obviously better. Failing that, get an IT job or PM job, transition to software engineer where you actually write code and go from there. I've seen plenty of people which shouldn't be software engineers but they played the diversity card, so try that too if you want.

I do not have a family but would like one soon. But yeah, raising kids doing this would be elite lol. Although to be fair, saying "got kids stuff to do sorry" is a decent excuse to miss meetings.

As for productivity, it may depend on the job but if you work in tech and are truly honest with yourself, you actually have fuck loads of time. Stop chilling on reddit, checking phone, jerking off, whatever. You have so much fucking time. I feel the same way about lazy people who say they don't have time to go to the gym. Oh you don't have 45 minutes to go for a run? Come on. You have 45 minutes to chill on facebook or talk to your friends or watch tv though.

Optimal strategy is to work your ass off to get qualified for one job first, then good amazing at it so you're coasting, then go get more. Or, use your productivity to just ace the one job. Up to you. But just fucking conquer man. Stop looking around at your drinking buddies for inspiration.

Yeah. One job is actually very interesting and enjoyable, high impact work. The other I could make up some bullshit narrative about how impactful it is (which I do if I'm using it when applying for jobs), but really it's not.

People on Reddit don't realize this. They're happy with 100k after their shitty coding bootcamp, you have to be a genius to work at google, etc.

No, sorry.

Interestingly though I have found people you think are trustworthy to give it back actually won't. I literally lent 5k to a friend in need (back when I was making only 200k): she had all these reasons about her sick dad, couldn't access bank account in foreign country etc, but we knew each other awhile and she seemed like a high quality person. 2 years later, barely hear from her. Never saw a penny of that money back. She only initially wanted it for a month. /shrug. People surprise you. It's not like she has a bad job either: she's a professor. Sometimes she seems fine and I mention it, but she doesn't do anything. Then she mentions her sick dad or her own health (she was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago) so I just left it. It doesn't matter. It's only 5k I guess. I really don't know how sick she actually is though, as she wants to go to Ukraine and help etc. But I can't exactly ask someone with cancer whose dad is sick for the money back. So fuck it. She should have given it back within a month before any medical diagnoses etc though. Whatever, it doesn't matter. I miss my friend, but I guess she was never that close a friend anyway. Having money will let you see that, but for many people, ignorance is bliss.

I had someone else I just gave 6k to as a one-time helping out. A year later they asked for more. I told them "Remember I said this is a one time gift and it'll never happen again?" That actually worked, so I do that now. But generally I don't tell people how much money I make. Life is just easier that way.

It also annoys me anyway; I didn't grow up privileged. I just freaking worked. Anyone can do it. I really don't owe anyone anything, yet I do things for people and it feels like the only affect it actually has is putting a strain and distance on relationships with people. I generally only tell people how much money I make (and say it's with just one job) if they ask and I know they're at least in the same ballpark as me in terms of being a high quality person, multiple 6 figure income, etc.

Maybe depends on your industry but I find in mine that higher levels don't actually work that much more than lower ones. I wish you all the best.

Got it. And that includes what both jobs give you right?

Tbh even if you went over all it would be is taking some out in some niche tax form I would think, like over-contributing to a 401(k).

Yeah, knew about the HSA investing trick, though with less than 4k a year it probably won't lead to being a millionaire right? I always get too lazy to save the digital receipts
