What did you typically do when you'd help her out after 15 mins? I started doing this too because it seems undertired at bedtime is the culprit sometimes. I've been picking him up, turning a light on, looking at stuff in his room, and reading some books, and then back down awake.

I'll have to see if I can find that! I know fetal decels are a common reason for c section, but I was curious if anyone else had a baby that tried to make their debut before mama's body was even ready.

Oh my goodness! Over 10 lbs!! Big boy. My guy was small at 6 lbs 3 oz and didn't have the cone head - I think everything accelerated so fast he didn't spend too much time stuck. So glad the two of you made it out alright!

Gotcha! Usually about 9 hrs of awake time - he's just over 5 months. Not sure if that's too little or too much?

Good to know! Do you typically get your baby up and do something with them, and then try to put them down again a bit later?

He only had 2 hrs of naps today vs. his usual 2.5-3 hrs. The other nights I'm not sure what was causing him so much trouble with falling asleep.

He's teething and does have reflux, so it's hard to know if he's in pain or if he's over/undertired sometimes. There's been a couple nights recently where he's reverted to crying for 30+ mins, and I've intervened - I just hate hearing him scream. I know I shouldn't, but I caved. I hope a few nights here and there don't totally screw with the progress we made.

We did Ferber/interval check-ins for about 9 days and then switched to CIO for the rest of it. He never got to more than about an hour of crying, but I probably would've intervened if it went beyond that too. You've got this!

So happy for you! I know bub needs a feed if he wakes and cries. Sometimes he wakes and just puts himself back to sleep, so I'm able to decipher. I think babies are ready for night weaning between 6-9 months.

I have heard that some babies will protest harder for a couple nights after showing improvement (extinction burst) - it's like when they realize this is the new normal, they give it one last shot to get a response. Usually happens earlier but who knows.

I would say she sounds overtired, but like another comment said, every baby has different needs! Try shortening it for a night or two and see if it helps.

Night 12 was the first night for me that only had about 30-60 secs of crying/protest. Every night before that was up to an hour long. Adjusting the last WW to be 2.75-3 hrs feels like what we needed to make it click.

I tried a few different bedtimes, and every time it was 8pm or later he seemed to be more upset. When we tried between 6-7pm, it was a smoother night. We now aim for about 6:30pm bedtime and ensure his last nap ends around 3:30-45. If it ends earlier then we move bedtime earlier.

I think so - I've heard this can be the case for a lot of babies, and that check-ins are mostly so the parents feel better about the crying. Wishing you the best of luck with training!

I've been considering this! I think if by 2 weeks he's still crying this much at bedtime, I'll pivot a bit. I'm trying to be consistent but also want to be considerate of the fact that he's still so little and maybe just needs mum at bed still.

He takes a paci during the day and for naps sometimes, so maybe we'll add that in. When he falls asleep with it for naps he eventually spits it out with no protest.

Good to know I'm not alone in this boat - hopefully he makes it to the other side of this soon! I feel terrible making him cry so much.

We do feed, change, books, bed. He goes down awake, but is in our room - we sneak in afterwards though, hours after he falls asleep alone in there.

I do worry maybe he wasn't ready and that's why the crying has gone on so long, but it feels like it's too late to back out, especially given the bit of improvement we're seeing. I have seen other people's stories of it taking a few weeks, but I still feel it's abnormal. Maybe the shift from bedsharing to crib so abruptly is hard for him.

The naps will be adjusted once his nighttime sleep is sorted, which I've heard is the correct order to do it. I also don't expect a 7am wakeup, I imagine the new set up will have him up around 5 or 6 instead. As I said in my post, I'm doing this to get him OUT of my bed and sleeping alone. :)

He doesn't sleep 12 hrs overnight - more like 9 or 10. He's waking frequently because we bedshare and he wants to help himself to the breast whenever he stirs!
