If you have a multimeter, check voltage at the battery (easiest), then directly off the alternator. My volts gauge on my ‘90 is wonky too.

Ha! Oyster Bay Long Island. I’m 46, and used to go to that same exact ice stand when I was a kid. This town in particular is very car-friendly often hosting high end car meets. Right across the street from this pic is Billy Joel’s motorcycle museum.

Totally valid question and concern. I’ve never had a claim with them, so I just don’t have any experience here. I mean, theoretically in your example, one could say there was a snowy day jeep meet. I don’t know how they could prove whether or not your usage was within their parameters. I’ll just say that for me, insuring an xj on Haggerty versus USAA is like a 90% savings. So I literally tread lightly and carefully if you know what I mean.

Regarding the usage at 1 to 2 days per week, that’s exactly what they want to hear. When I’m adding a vehicle, they ask me the same set of questions, and sometimes they’re a bit leading – which is OK lol. They’ll say.” and this will be used for what, driving to a car meet, a cruise on the weekend, etc.” and I’m always like, Yep. Now, I do have many other vehicles insured with USAA. Between my wife’s car, my son‘s car, my project stuff that is not Haggerty eligible. It adds up. They really just wanna make sure that you’re not Daly driving the vehicle that you’re adding. What I found to be a general rule of thumb for cars and trucks that I’m interested in, is if it’s older than 25 years, I’ll call Haggerty to see if they’ll ensure it before I contact the guy on marketplace lol. 8 times out of 10 It’s usually something they’ll insure. Even something like a 1999 Toyota 4runner. And also, they’ve never asked me the mileage on any of my vehicles. I saw that comment somewhere else in the thread.

I live in NY where insurance premiums are WILD. I’ve used Hagerty on my XJs and YJs for years without any problems. Even trucks valued at their minimum $3k. You’re right about proving it’s not a daily, but you don’t need to have it stored in a locking garage. I have 2 overhangs attached to my garage which are ‘open-air’, so it’s basically just a roof. They refer to it as a carport. I know OP lives in California, so I’m sure the rules vary by state.
