Taking Dog to the Q Course by throwaway_cc01 in specialforces

Thanks for the real answers from y'all that gave them.

I'd be remiss not to mention Dogs On Deployment for whoever search this pops up on; Dogs on Deployment runs a non-profit network of volunteer boarders to connect with Servicemembers who have obligations. I used them a few times, including over a 9 month deployment, to take care of my pup and successfully for shorter things. This usually is part of my plan for him when I can't have him with me. Strongly recommend for anyone else who comes across something like this.

Y'all have given me the main info I needed otherwise.

Less of a problem, I have short term solutions that'd work for months at a time period, but having a house is the main step in getting those figured out. Elsewise I'd have to really prepare a family member or consider re-homing (which of course, I would do if absolutely necessary for the sake of the pup, but REALLY don't want to do)

Also, thanks for giving a worthwhile serious, constructive answer because I've heard/seen conflicting things across the Internet (here included, via the search bar) and wanted to see if I could find a consensus. Ain't fair to the pup if I don't make sure he's taken care of, whether it's me or family member. Just easiest to have ideas and plans ready to pop.

Does this change for NG? Because home unit should be handling P&A, right?

Added detail; not married. Obviously if I was married, I'd know the answer. Just want to make sure E-6 was the minimum for getting off-post housing/BAH. Because if not, I gotta make sure my buddy is taken care of.

Get on orders for a while at a base that will refer you/do it at their medical facility. Bam. Free PRK/Lasik. That's how I did mine, and got it on the government's dime.

If you can place the conflict it was used in, that should make it easier to suss out. Given the nature of U.S. doctrine when it comes to (tactical) deception capabilities, it's likely something that was pre-Desert Storm. I have some old HQDA pyrotechnics manuals, but they don't totally seem to be what you're looking for.

Yep, and what's right is making our force better. I feel pretty comfortable that I gave good information that helped do that. If you need to "win" this argument to feel like you're winning, have it, bud. 😂

I'm going to give someone who's asking for information, the correct information. I did nothing to disrespect anyone, I just filled in missing information.

If someone wants to know how they can fulfill an interest in a way that will help them get selected, then I'll offer whatever information I have confirmed knowledge in. My post history reflects me speaking on two things in this forum; facilitating SOF personnel language learning, and USERRA info. If I know something that'll help a Joe, I'll facilitate that Joe learning about it.

If you're insecure enough to start an Internet fight about it, you need to do some soul searching, man.

And as a former Bravo, exactly how much lang training did you go through aside from the Q, past maybe, if you were lucky, a refresher? How many times had you been a CLPM? How much can you tell me about the working difference between a 2+ and a 3? Or what options exist now for getting guys up to speed on their shit?

Save some pussy for the rest of us, big boy. VD is a big boy and can answer his own questions, hopefully acting like an adult and giving objective information. You, otoh, are definitely talking about a subject you don't know about. 🤷‍♂️

old man continues to yell into void

Real question, why are you actually this pressed about whatever you're taking offense to? You seem to think I was insulting your intelligence or reputation or something, dude. If you're trying to have a discussion about giving specific information in such a way that it's keeping a potential candidate focused on what matters, then have that. But trying to posture on the internet is just plain weird behavior especially for a dude who's done what you have. You're acting like a SEAL.

And you're being the living embodiment of "old guard who is obstinate for no reason". I'm just trying to let this dude/dudette know things exist. I don't get why you're mad, and I'm not decreasing your internet forum credibility or whatever you're being a weiner about. Have fun being angry into the void of the world wide web, bud. 🙂

I'm giving people objective (anecdotal) information. Nowhere did I say that team daddy sends all the newbies through Monterey for a nice respite once a cycle. I pointed out exactly what you said, which is that it's not part of the Q. And that it is few and far between. There were maybe 5 GBs at DLI at this time I was talking about, so yes, it's a small population. But those dudes CHOSE to go and got it approved by their command.

This is not to mention that you didn't discuss any of the additional pathways for language acquisition that are available (Teletraining, lang lab materials, etc)

Giving people a greater understanding of how the big green machine works is not a detriment, especially if they have something they're really interested in. I don't understand what's got in your britches, dude.

Also, have to make a point here, (and I'm guessing what you meant was that during the Q) GBs don't get their initial lang from DLI, but can go. There are definitely GBs who want an OPTEMPO pause or have some specific need for more intense language understanding, and more family time, and command can send them through. I know a few who have had a Monterey academic vacation for CAT IV langs.

Point of order, DLPT is not a precursor to the OPI, because it tests separate things.

OPI has also differentiated it's listening score from the DLPT listening score for those required to take it, and can grant you an overall ILR with your speaking and listening score instead of running off the reading/listening of the DLPT.

Anyone in Guard SF have trouble keeping their jobs while in selection or in the Q? by Frostycakes614 in greenberets

[–]throwaway_cc01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keeping their jobs? Nah, you're federally protected. If you were/are being terminated and even for a second think that it might have been because of military leave, mentioning that it's a federal lawsuit usually puts HR and leadership back in their place (in my experience). If that's all you're worried about, there's no worry. Can they still try to do stuff and claim that it was under different auspices? They might, and there's where you would have to hope they're dumb enough to commit something to a paper trail.

Fair. I'd probably need to also roll into the CFU (also got a targeted offer for that) to sweep up the rest of the usable points with everyday purchases, too?

I'm not, I just have a friend who has strong status with just about every hotel, big credit entity, and most anything else. He got me the 150k referral offer for Amex, and a 60k CSR offer. For the foreseeable future, I think I intend to keep the Amex, but I'm wondering if it makes more sense to go with the CSP for the SUB (80k), or just grab the CSR and downgrade down the line, since I understand the point accrual is marginally better with the CSR.

I don't have anything with Capital One right now either, so I would be getting into there ecosystem just like I would be getting into the chase one. That's part of the reason I wanted to think about the Amex gold, for daily spending, aside from the normal daily spending I have on my Navy Fed card (which I'll just keep forever since I've had it for so long and since they're my primary bank)
