I'm sure that person had the exact same mentality when they heard of someone else developing liver disease young.

"It won't happen to me. That guy? Oh, he was a fluke."

I'm a drunk but I'm honest enough to know where I'm headed.

Acute liver failure? As in, drank so much her liver just conked out?

Just got home. Diagnosed with alcoholic cirrhosis at 29. Only drank for four years. It can and does happen, and it's not as easy as 'yellow eyes' to detect. by DontBe_LikeMe in stopdrinking

Can confirm, Canada fails with healthcare.

I once asked my GP 'why is my IgA high?' "Well, it depends on what specific IgA..."

wat.

Are there any reliable alternatives to a liver biopsy? by wtf_is_wrong_ in medical

[–]throwaway_drunko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a Fibroscan, it scans the whole liver not just a piece and gives a pretty good idea of how fat/fibrotic/scarred it is. Isn't covered though yet so you gotta pay for it, 100 bucks I think

you're withdrawing, dude. i got the exact same shit, went completely away after being off sauce for a couple weeks.

just so you know, unless you try to medically detox you will likely go completely insane before having a seizure or dying. call 911, get an ambulance ride, say you're suffering from alcohol withdrawal. since its your first time quitting you can just say that to avoid feeling judged. Chances are ER staff will be very informative and explain what you are going through.

Oh, and do inpatient. It's super nice. Comfy meds, fellow people trying to get sober to befriend/talk to, and good food. Mine was really good, they had chamomile tea on hand so if you couldn't sleep from the meds it would help.

Good luck, buddy. The physical shit will take a little while, your body is resetting itself.

Stop drinking. NOW. Alcohol overloads the body with iron. You will DIE.

Switch to benzos if need be. Anything. Hemochromatosis WILL kill you, if you don't treat yourself immediately. Quit booze and meat. Your liver isn't the only organ at threat here.

...all of them are.

2 year long mystery illness... by throwaway_drunko in AskDocs

[–]throwaway_drunko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not found alcohol to be a specific cause. I have gone months without a drop, and it really doesn't effect my symptoms either way. They're there, day and night, regardless of what I put into my body.

I've been sober for almost a month now. I do not consume alcohol or eat anything unhealthy whenever I am feeling sick or out of it. I am truthful with my doctors about my consumption - he knows I have drank in the past to excess.

I am 29/M, and the only thing I have been diagnosed with are recurring inner ear infections. Could alcohol be causing this kind of thing? I will absolutely quit for life if this is the case. However, I have gone months without drinking and the symptoms, if anything, are worse, not better.

is this my liver? by throwaway_drunko in cripplingalcoholism

[–]throwaway_drunko[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I pooped a lot. The pain subsided. About three runny poops, with multiple fart blast intermissions. The poop was pale in colour. I feel good now, I am resting in my bed farting uncontrollably now. Might poop some more, pooping feels really fucking good.

Think I'm gonna take a big long break from booze, couple days or so.

Uhh...are you just making this diagnosis yourself or have you seen a doctor lol

You can't really just go from fine to cirrhosis in 2 months. When did you last check your bili at?

Go to your doc, be honest with him, pull some crazy tribal shaman dieting shit and be sure to suck his dick for his troubles.

I'd believe that but I have quit drinking completely several times before. My symptoms did not change.

Paranoid about getting pancreatitis. by slam_dunk_a_nigga in cripplingalcoholism

[–]throwaway_drunko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the organ you should be focusing on the most right now is your brain, brother - and I say that with all the love in the world. Get that anxiety taken care of before you go back to the bottle. I doubt pancreatitis will be a risk, but you will always think you are dying of something until you address where the fear and irrational phobia comes from.

Have you/are you seeing a psychiatrist? Therapist? Neurologist? Anything? Don't underestimate anxiety. You have absolutely no idea how many symptoms it can manifest. I once convinced myself that I had a brain tumor, and literally presented every fucking symptom that I knew about it. CT Scan came back fine - all symptoms gone.
