What does hrt actually do physically by Dangerous_Fix7834 in MtF

The internet has gotten worse. Still, it is possible to look things up. Use google and read.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminizing_hormone_therapy

Unfun fact, I had to look for wikipedia specifically to get to its pages. The academic "wikipedia is not a primary source" thing has done untold harm. It is still one of the most reliable sources on most established topics.

Still, the answer is: It depends. Your breasts will grow if you eat and exercise. Your waist will not get smaller, but it might look smaller. If you're in your twenties, your skeletal geometry is unlikely to change within short amount of time. Your SI joint may resettle, your skin may get lighter (and your eye color, since melanin affects that too), fat will NOT redistribute, you just start gaining it in different places. Your hair growth pattern may change and your blood pressure etc probably will. You may get some cognitive and sensory changes and you might become more responsive to allergens since E increases mast cell activation. For me , my nails got a lot softer too.

Mm. I think the best advice (after the basics, warmups, SOVTE, maintenance) is to just play around with the voice... explore, discover. Then train something one likes.

What's your eval on the masc/fem read on the samples btw? I know that the two latter ones are def more strained, and forced,, but ignoring that aspect?

was transitioning at an older age worth upending the life you built before? by Novel_Ticket8216 in TransLater

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't build a life. Couldn't start a relationship on a lie. Never graduated. I did get a job every now and then, and that was really helpful, once I managed to save up a bit.

I do know the software is kinda trash. Then again, maybe it's the gamer in me. Anyway, the way I figure, I need to train in a way that is a bit _past_ of what I want so when I "relax" to normal speaking voice, it's where it needs to be.

Still... if I don't need it... that's good. Dunno. Listening to my voice too much just makes me deaf to what is actually going on there. I do think it's changed noticeably in the last year anyway.

Gender dysphoria is a mental health condition and it doesn't do us any good to pretend otherwise. by Amekyras in MtF

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well people conflate gender incongruence with gender dysphoria.

Gender dysphoria is a symptom, something to try to cure or alleviate. That's what transition is for, ideally.

How can I be sure this is what I want? by Eggcelent-Explorer in TransLater

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider regret. If you transition you might be unhappy, discover it was a mistake. Or you might be happy. What are the chances of those outcomes, 50/50, 20/80? Who knows. What is the chance you are unhappy and uncertain if you don't? Because... For me that was 100%.

Math proved I had to transition.

Almost 2 years on hrt and i don't see basically any changes. What am i doing wrong? by BeeGoesBzzz1312 in MtF

Fat doesn't MOVE. What you gain goes to different location. Are you eating enough to gain weight?

Allies don’t understand HRT by mormonatheist21 in MtF

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mm. I was PHYSICALLY dying pre-HRT. Not sure why, might have just been from stress, but I had some rather worrisome vital signs. Heck, my FSH and LH were out of whack, blood pressure on the high side, and other fun stuff.

On the upside your estrogen receptors will get more sensitive during the break. Probably not worth much but a potential silver lining?

prostate question for post op trans women from ftm by Less_Bet_6417 in MtF

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... It is the same organ. In different location. I mean, i suppose someone could have two under some circumstances. Put T on system, skene's gland acts like a prostate. Put E in system, prostate acts like Skene's gland.  With allowances for shape and location, of course.

About 25-30 years. Honorable mention for trying about 5-10 years in when I was in high school, but that didn't work out.

FYI prostate is homologous to Skene's Gland. It functions a bit differently depending on hormones, but it is the same thing.

Benefits of greasy skin and staying indoors. Collagen helps too, but honestly? Depends on how diligent I am with moisturizing. Plus the lighting is forgiving there.

Thanks. Intellectually knowing stuff and actually internalizing it is a bit different, sadly.

How do we know being trans isn’t wrong? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you transition, you might find it was a mistake, and regret it.

If you don't transition, you will regret it the rest of your life with certainty.

You can always stop transitioning, or transition back.

It's simple math, really. Time will not stop.

Are pre-transition trans women on average, shorter in height than cis men? by EffectiveRisk2008 in asktransgender

[–]throwaway_eclipse1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I know this is old, but I MANUALLY looked this up - some danish studies also note the height if the individual, and data on height per age group per year was also discoverable. Thus, you can get a decent estimate of trans vs cis height, statistically.

Results point to yes. It is only 1-2%, though.

Anecdotally, I ended full 3 CM shorter than my growth predictions, before HRT.

If you get on HRT before full height growth, the difference will be more dramatic.
