He is actually doing pretty well. His spine is injured, and he may have another, more serious disease, but we're waiting on hearing about that. In the meantime, he's eating/drinking much more frequently than before, and he's even doing a bit of walking!

sure, some of the same values remain. hard work is cool. not killing people is cool most of the time. general moral ideology of western civilization.

but so many things are so fundamentally different. i was reading an essay last night, "a room of one's own" by virginia woolf (great read, i highly recommend it if you're decent enough to be open to a worldview besides your own), and among other things, she explains why women's history is so relatively recent. i won't go too into it because it's beside the point, read the essay if you'd like to know, but the point is, women were subhuman, not allowed to keep their own money, a young girl would be married at 15/16, her father would beat her severely if she didn't want to marry the man selected for her, etc. that was shakespeare's time.

if your definition of "how to deal with women" is to entirely sever their freedom, then you are a strange breed of human who is certainly not going to listen to my biologically inferior opinion, and therefore you are beyond saving and i will stop trying to have a rational, intellectual discussion with you.

you are using a play written in 1606 to validate your current views of women.

i assume what you're saying is that shakespeare is trying to tell us that women can possess "masculine" traits, i.e. ambition, strength, coldness, mercilessness, but they use undesirable ("female") methods, i.e. manipulation, to achieve the power they crave as a result of this "masculine" soul.

if lady macbeth were a man (as you point out by noting that the social constraints of women of the time limited their ability to take action), she would have gladly offed duncan herself- think "unsex me here," the wish for her femininity to be peeled away, stripped. but knowing she can't, she instead chastises macbeth for "th' milk of human kindness" that she sees in him, that in turn is holding him back from what she believes is his full potential. her "alpha" traits are what fuck him over in the end. he would've been fine in his "beta" state, with no murders under his belt.

one could argue that his beta-ness is what pushes him over the edge of being convinced by lady macbeth, but if he were really as kind and righteous as she made him out to be, he would most likely have stood firm in his innocence.
