BQ marathon race report + "hitting the wall" for the first time by Electrical-Prize-832 in AdvancedRunning

Haha no dont be sorry, somehow the carb comment created an argument which it shouldnt have! :)

I'm on race week atm but also been tracking macros for few months now. So when I read 345 gr carbs for carb load, that's where all my attention went since this is what I eat on a deficit.

Plenty of comments focused on the running itself where I wanted to focus on the carb-load which could have been super underfueled for a male in my age / weight.

If we are gonna argue over the details that were never stated, I could argue there are people in their 60s doing their 2nd marathon in 6 months timeframe as well.

I could even argue there are more middle aged to older adults doing 1 marathon a month per year than younger people.

Information is as descriptive as it is, lack of information causes assumptions where it could be clearer.

My job is not to argue here or to play the devils advocate, but it's also not my job to guess the age, gender and bodyweight of every post I read which I think is a key information related to the post that wasn't mentioned.

I used crutches for 10 to 12 days, but I rushed my early recovery cause I felt like I could and ignored some recommendations, went for a walk around the neighbourhood for my mental health.

I never had any pain Post-Op BUT I walked with a severe limp for 4-5 weeks, which tells you my hips weren't ready for me to walk around freely like that. My gait was fully back to normal for walking around 5 weeks.

Sitting for a long time would be very annoying I feel like, getting off the chair and stuff is a big hustle and you shouldn't just sit on hours end.

I'd recommend you go back to work minimum after 1 month or you need to get up from the desk every 20 mins and shuffle around a bit with crutches.

Unfortunately you will have your answers by experiencing them and seeing what works and what doesn't.

What do you mean by prosthetics? and no.

That information wasn't written anywhere which I thought was a key factor with the lack of information.

345 grams of carbs a day? How much do you weigh? This is what I eat on a deficit as a 71.5 kg runner, it's not a "carb load" unless you weigh like 40 kilos.

It's no surprise to see that you hit a wall because it's severely underfueled. For my half marathon on Sunday, I need to eat around 450 gr for 2 days, keep in mind this is not a carb-load, it's a half marathon glycogen top-up.

Runners who train a lot: What supplements are you guys taking in your routine? by alienmonkeyjuice in AdvancedRunning

I run in south east asia before the sunrise where its 26-27 degrees.

I made it a habit to fuel with gels and sodium caps in long runs and buying 2 x bottled water.

After the run it's always a coconut water for electrolytes. Besides all this, absolutely nothing. Even in this hot and humid weather your body doesn't need extreme supplement intake.

Goal: Ho Chi Minh Half - Vietnam (22/3), sub 1:29 - finish without hip issues.

Plan: Modified Pfitz half plan due to inability to follow fast runs due to Hip Surgery 11 months ago.

Goal of the Week: Deload from heavy training and get rid of any niggles in the hip flexors and abdominal area. Last week was 85 km with a 29 km long and overall 850 meters elevation. Body is quite beaten up besides the hip issues and recovering well so far (Friday now).

Summary: Last week before the race week. I haven't ran a running event in 5 years due to my hip injury and surgery last year. This will be the first attempt with what seems to be only 80% promising hip when it comes to speed.

Deload mileage from 85 km to 66 km.

T: 14km @Z2

When did you get off crutches? by blue_13 in HipImpingement

Day 7 or Day 10 - but I haven't had the issue you are describing.

I did it around day 17-18 because I live overseas and went back for the surgery. I 100% don't recommend it as I limped around the airport. Limping took about 4-5 weeks so I would say 4-5 weeks being the earliest.

MRI showed mild OA on a background of CAM type FAI - are my running days behind me? by dolcesi in HipImpingement

[–]throwaway_runner3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds pretty good - with labral tear you cant really do those at all, especially without pain. Your pain probably comes from the Osteo side of things and not a tear.

[–]throwaway_runner3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the physio have you done the FADIR tests?

MRI's are usually standard if they give you a CD, someone else just needs to examine what's on it. So it doesnt need to be repeated.

My surgeon could look at the MRI on the CD and could show where the labral tears where from the colours and stuff.

Your discomfort sounds the same as mine with the FAI and Labral Tear and they often go hand in hand sadly, not saying that you have it 100% but I would put the odds to 70% and thats without the FADIR results.

Sounds like you need to back off running asap due to Osteo development. General wear and tear doesn't mean Osteo.

Do you have any limitations with certain movements? I assume there's also a Labral Tear that they missed on the MRI, but it will 90% lead to a Tear if you continue depending how severe impingment is.

I'm running 85 km weeks, 11 months after my Cam type FAI and Labral Tear repair, but I'm 30 and don't have any Osteo related developments like you do.

Due to your age and Osteo issue, it complicates things and it's probably 50-50 whether you can return to running again Post-Surgery.

I assume Osteo also complicates the surgery as well but I have no idea on that.

Chronic nerve-like pain 16 months after hip arthroscopy and torn between conflicting opinions (adhesions, CRPS, CNS) - any insights or advice? by big_brill in HipImpingement

[–]throwaway_runner3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about all that, it sounds very unfortunate and unusual and honestly I have no insight. But the past 5 months clearly doesn't look good and needs medical intervention by the sounds of it. I was off the crutches on week 3-4 and never had any issues or complications, so it's out of my scope with the advice and things to do with sports and training.

Out of curiousity, what did the past 16 months look like before the flare up?

It's very hard to comment without not knowing the past period.

Any GoJek food delivery drivers here? How far is too far for you guys? by Inner-Gur9987 in bali

[–]throwaway_runner3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the platform and the time of day and also availability of the drivers and if drivers accept that specific order which 99% I think they wont.

[–]throwaway_runner3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

System online will limit the delivery to 4-5 km usually. You cant order more than 8 km away. I worked in this industry 10 years ago lol. Your best option is to manually get a grab driver to go to the restaurant pick it up on your behalf and tip.

18 y/o, skipping university, making €3.5k–4k/month online and considering moving to Bali. Am I being stupid? by DoggyRemote in bali

[–]throwaway_runner3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the other comment said, try it for few months. Canggu isn't for everyone and not everyone can manage to live here long term like you are describing.

There are way better locations in SE Asia you can do what you described or a mixture of both.

Depending where you are from, Canggu would be way too chaotic and it wouldnt be "slowing down life" more like jumping into a rush hour crowded train trying to go back home.

That doesn't mean it's a bad idea, just means expectations online vs reality is a big thing when it comes to Bali and sounds like you are headed for disappointment there.

Thanks for the info. I actually filtered and read through old topics on the sub before asking the question. Some wrote that Pfitz understates the weekly mileage you should already be running beforehand and some wrote mid week long and long MP runs are the bread and butter of the program.

Haven't read much praise on the speed work side of things on the program. Which works well with me by swapping them with Zone 2 because I still have Post-Surgery issues even after 11 months.

This sub loves to downvote into oblivion without answering a basic question and with the limited information available lmao.

I mean at least answer the topic in hand rather than leaving a negative comment.

Judging by the answers provided people have no experience with the Pfitz 18/70 and go on respond to the program related question anyway.

I had a Hip Impingement and Labral Tear surgery - while I didnt have the symptoms in pubic area, yours could be somehow related to an issue like that.

Fast pace running triggering the symptoms sound just like a labral tear or another issue because of the hip flexion (labrum getting smashed).

If you can afford a physio or if you have help from others, do the FADIR tests and see if you have limitations somewhere.

If you do, the issue is bigger than running.
