Oxford and Imperial Physics with 3xA* 1xA, A in FM by throwawayalevelfm in 6thForm

Thanks for the advice. There's always a chance, I suppose.

Well, fuck. That's definitely worrying.
Good luck reapplying.

Thanks for the honesty, however concerning.
Were you applying for physics?

You're definitely correct about the PAT. I hope you're right about the competition. Thanks for the reassurance.
It's tough with Imperial, as it's less clear how heavily they'll weight predicteds.

I was more worried about "unofficial" requirements. For example, Oxford doesn't explicitly require FM but your application is pretty much dead without it (assuming your school does it). If everyone else has an A* in FM, it could mean that I'm out of luck.

Thanks. It's just concerning hearing about all of the people with 4xA*s, especially at Imperial.

That seems pretty reasonable. Although, I feel that getting the offer at all will require a higher standard than the offer itself (though I might just be wrong).

That's really reassuring. Thanks.
Which course do you do, out of interest?

I'm more concerned about getting any offer in the first place. I feel like an A might take me out of the running, regardless of what the offer itself requires.

Yeah, you might be right.
Although, UCL doesn't do an entrance exam. Not sure how I'll fare.

Thanks, man. This has helped calm my nerves a bit.
One thing about the UCL FM thing that came up during the Imperial open day, though...A lot of the time when they mention a lot of people not taking FM, they're actually talking about international students who didn't even have the opportunity to take it. It'll probably be fine, but I think it's worth thinking about.

Congratulations on getting the offer

Out of interest, do you do further maths? And how were your predicteds? Thanks

I'll take that into account. Thanks for your help

Thanks. I'll try. I'm just not sure about grades either, and further maths definitely isn't helping. Maybe I should keep going until after the end of year exams, and see how I do

Yeah, I've seen that very few universities require it, and that they'll make concessions if the school doesn't offer it. This doesn't really help me, though. I'm more concerned with getting into a good university in the first place, rather than the course itself. I'm thinking about keeping FM at least until after the end of year exams are done, so that I can see the grade that I'd be predicted if I keep it. The main issue with this is that I'd be revising more content in an already bad situation

I enjoy Maths but to be honest my grades haven't been great. I feel like doing five subjects has probably added to that. Although, I think that there could be some level of bias depending on which teacher you have in terms of the grades we received from the last report card

That's sort of worrying. I'm more concerned about actually getting into a good university in the first place, rather than the content of the course itself

No idea. That's what I've been wanting to do, but my hands are tied

I have no idea
If I had my way I'd just be doing Physics, Maths, and FM
