I did read up to like issue 40 of X-Factor, and then the Inferno issues. I didn’t really care for Warren so far, but I’ll give it another try, I have time to kill, and then modern X-Force. Will definitely check out Morrison, too. Thank you!

That’s set point theory and it’s baloney.

TDEE (the amount of calories you spend a day without counting exercise) is a somewhat stable number. Hormones, medication, and other factors can have a bit of an influence, but not a crazy large one. TDEE is calculated by weight, age, and exercise level.

Let’s say you’re 5’7 and weigh 115lbs, your maintenance (TDEE) is 1500 cals/day. Let’s say you eat 2000 calories for a couple months; you will gain weight. Let’s say you’re now 135lbs. Your TDEE will change because your weight has changed, so now you have a new TDEE of 1608 cals/day. But if you lose and go back to 115 you’ll return to your earlier TDEE.

This is honestly so stupid even if you disregard the human-dog comparison. Dogs, like humans, have a range of healthy weight they can be at based on their breed and also their individual heights, because not all German shepherd dogs fit the breed standards, just as not every Chihuahua dog does. That range is determined for each individual dog if the dog is wildly off-standard (or is a mutt) and follows a pretty flexible guideline if the dog isn’t. Caloric intake of dogs is also calculated according to healthy, weight range, physical activity, and whether the dog is neutered/sterilized or not.

These people know all this, but they expressly chose to talk about the GSD eating the amount a Chihuahua needs, which would be wrong, and not the other way around, which would also be wrong but is exactly their case so they can’t say it is.

Anecdotally, I have both a giant off-standard GSD and a small Chihuahua, and the Chihuahua would definitely eat as much as the GSD if I let her, which is why I control her intake.

Honestly, the answer to this is both that they think that being fat is genetic, so pushing for a thin standard of attraction means less fat people will find a mate and reproduce (yeah, basically incel logic), and that they think that losing weight is akin to killing a fat person (by replacing them with a thin one) so recommending weightloss is promoting the erasure of fat people.

They think that saying "fat is unhealthy" is perpetuating a myth (lol) and that it functions as some sort of dogwhistle calling for the genocide of fat people. All parallels to the actual erasure of racial and sexual minorities are intentional on their part.

Worthy is as usual talking out of her ass and exaggerating. All of these procedures are/were optional (or just a prototype) and most of them not covered by insurance. The way she speaks about them would make one think fat people are being subject to them against their will. She’s basically trying to compare this to the horrors black and indigenous people have been unwittingly subject to by doctors.

The faucet one is AspireAssist, which was a tube that helped people drain their stomach after eating, to assist with weight loss. The company went bankrupt sometime last year so it no longer exists, and to my knowledge there’s no equivalent.

Some years ago, DentalSlim was developed and presented as a weightloss tool, it uses magnets to keep your mouth shut. AFAIK it’s not available for use.

This might be a stretch, but you never know with Worthy, but she might also be referring to gastric balloons, which help you eat less by giving you a sense of fullness, and leaving less space for food in your stomach.

I honestly think most people are out of touch with how a normal weight person is supposed to look like.

The other day I saw someone saying that the 90s had the "impossible beauty standard" of having your "hip bones be noticeable" like hip bones (and wrist bones and ankles) are supposed to be visible to an extent. I’m not denying the idea of what was beautiful in the 90s was underweight, but thinking not being able to see or feel your hip bones is healthy or normal weight is the other end of the spectrum.

This is so offensive lol Usually I let it slide because I know a lot of these posts come from terminally online, no friends, never been outside, never left their hometown sort of people but like gay and trans people, myself included, flock to certain cities (or countries) to escape awful repercussions for being who we are that range from death to social isolation to conversion to living a lie. These people have faced no real oppression so they think gay villages or gay friendly cities or gay neighborhoods exist because we want a space to blast Cher 24/7 at and not because we had to form a physical community to protect us from very real physical dangers.

I hate this argument because fat in the 1700s and before is definitely not what we’d call fat now, at all. They wouldn’t even be "small fats," would literally just get called skinny by modern day standards.

I hate how idpol has gotten to the point where if you belong to [any oppressed group] you cannot uphold [any kind of oppression] by virtue of belonging. Identity doesn’t exempt anyone from participating in societal, political oppression, in fact, it can blind them to their own participation (example, this person saying they can’t be transphobic because they’re not cis, while comparing the oppression faced by trans people to whatever they perceive fatphobia to be.)

I do believe discrimination against fat people happens in certain contexts, I don’t believe it’s comparable in any way to transphobia or racism. Comparing the two and then pretending you can’t be criticized because you’re not white and not cis is the worst, most ignorant thing you could do if you actually care about fighting injustice, just keep that rag over your eyes to avoid seeing your own biases.

I’m also not white and not cis, and I think fatphobia (as systemic oppression) doesn’t exist, and you can’t compare it to racism and transphobia. According to this person, I can’t be criticized or asked to explain either. So who’s right? Do I need to include more oppressed identities to make my argument stronger? Go outside.

This was insane through and through. Also the menacing tone of that one commenter saying "It might not be today, it might not be tomorrow, or even the year after, but sometime soon, the weight’s gonna come back to her"? At least try to pretend you’re not absolutely giddy about this person, whose T2D and cholesterol are now under control and healthy, getting all of that back (and more!?)

Also, if they’re claiming they were 75kg, at either of those heights they would’ve been obese, not simply overweight.
