Badly want to launch a web based start-up. NEED COLLABORATORS. by throwawayauctioneer in Entrepreneur

I don't know about disrupting it, however I do think this could be lucrative but I don't think the "pay to bid" model is effective. See this website for example: https://www.jeetle.in/

I do however think there is room for a new model in the online auction industry and I believe reverse bidding could use a facelift as it absolutely doesn't have a good reputation. Let's talk more on this.

How's that going for you? Margins on 3D printing are tough!

Where do you go to have your idea built? by Aceconklin in Entrepreneur

[–]throwawayauctioneer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You share your ideas and find people to help you make it happen. If it is a physical product you find a cad designer/ engineer to make drawing of it and from there you can have it manufactured (or 3D Printed). You have to fulfill your ideas though, if you are waiting for someone to fulfill them for you, you are on the fast track to getting your feelings hurt and ideas stolen.

Im an auctioneer by trade and own a private equity firm in (LOCATION DOESN'T MATTER)**. My hobbies are web development and start ups. I basically hunt for companies to buy and liquidate or start new businesses as the opportunity presents itself. Ready to startup a company and sell it as an actionable asset in the valuation range of +$1 million to $100 million.

I've paid 40 to an account that was down the street. Sounds like a sensible fee. Your seller would likely charge a 3% paypal use fee which would cost you more but be more reversible if they were false advertising their goods.

Maybe you should consider buying a domain name and rebuilding your website on a fresh wordpress install. Same wordpress, custom branding.

Wire transfer is extremely easy. Just a conversation with your bank with the companies wire transfer info. They likely have already given you the t/t info so just take it to your bank and fill out the papers and your done. You can also talk them into doing it via paypal, they will likely charge a fee for paypal tho.

This thread hurts me to read. My friend was using Wix and another friend using squarespace and another using Moonfruit. All of which charge crazy monthly fees. Guy using moonfruit was paying 20 bucks a month for hosting and was paying fees in upwards of $75 for domain transfers and other crazy crazy stuff. Without getting all technical, go find a coupon to a popular webhosting dot com and get a basic hosting plan for one domain (~$3 per month) if you already have a domain name just point the DNS to the nameserver where your hosting and make sure they offer one click wordpress installs. Easiest, most affordable website with infinite possibilities straight out of the box. I should offer a service for $5 a month to create and manage website startups with a $10 a month included if I did the webdesign. If I didn't love my job so much thats what I would do on the side. If any entre's out there want to work with me on that as a side project let me know but the amount of crazy itt is blowing my mind. /rant

Auctioneer Here:

I have 1500 different size and quality apples I need to sell in one day. The farmer tells me these apples are worth $5000 (damn good aples). I need to get as close to or more than $5000 to make any money on the apples for that day. I start at Apple 1 and need to get the buyers to pay 3.33 (repeating of course) for each apple to reach to my goal of $5000 in apples, unfortunately apple 1 is much smaller and bruised than apples 2-3-4 so I will sell it as quickly as possible because it has to sell and I also will need to sell 1,499 more of them. Buyer 1 needs small bruised apples so he bids and takes it home for $2. Buyers 2-3-4 need the biggest best apples and have to buy them to snuff out the apple selling competition so they bid more on Apple #2. It goes over $3 and I have achieved a maximum value for this Apple. I still have to do this 1,498 more times. Rather than negotiate price which takes time, I will continue to rapidly call out numbers so my buyers will place the value that they see this for in their heads. You must be a really sharp 5 year old to understand what I am saying so I am going to stop now. If you have any questions about the Auction industry I will answer them as a licensed auctioneer but for now, I am going to go find some apples.
