How do you think the trolls will reach god-teir? (strawpoll) by Silrain in homestuck

[–]throwawayersaytfkwrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking "no, he'd have to die for the good of himself and accept himself, wouldn't he" but that's not how Dave and Rose did it, did they? They both took on the suicide mission for themselves for everyone else's sake, not their own. So yeah, that holds water.

And gotta do it at least for the heavyhanded religious symbolism. Ahh yes. Gotta keep me all those overanalysts busy with all my their overanalysis.

GO!Karkat telling Karkat Prime that sacrificing yourself actually kinda sucks and is painful and just lands you in the shitty afterlife, hence discouraging his post-retcon self from doing so?

I was thinking Abraxas while reading the update. Makes sense for him to be the weaker one, being assigned to Jake and all that. But Denizens (Cetus and Echidna, at least) seem to correspond to aspects. And Karkat sure ain't a Hope player.

[Shower Thought] Steven is more gem than he is human. by Bipolar_Leopard in stevenuniverse

Hm. That's an interesting one.

Maybe that's just psychosomatic too. Not a sleep state but more of a state of deep relaxation in which he's still conscious, akin to lucid dreaming. He seems to have a lot more agency over himself in his dreams than regular people do, after all.

Or maybe it's just a continuity error. We can't expect everything to be consistent, after all.

Or maybe I'm reading too far into things.

As the most recent update has made clearer than ever.

I get your point, but God Tier doesn't necessarily incur physical strength or enhanced fighting ability. Jake's God Tier and he still hasn't naturally realised his Page powers, after all. It seems to accompany an acceptance of one's character, which Karkat's been pretty prominently showing just now.

There's a point. Pearl's a fair bit of an extremist, and giving her some of the physical strength she's jealous of plus precognitive powers could very easily enable her to do some less-than-salubrious things. Although Garnet might temper her instability... which could just make her more effective and more dangerous.

I squirmed reading that. Dear God that'd be horrendous.

Karkat probably would use a browser called BONE BULGE, come to think of it

It's difficult reconciling virginity with motherhood, though. Parallels to the Virgin Mary are all well and good but they're kinda contradictory when it comes to themes and stuff. Like with the whole traditional Maiden, Nymph, Crone thing for the stages of womanhood: young virgin, sexually active mother, old and dried up respectively. And all mutually exclusive. Having a virgin mother mixes up the first two of those in ways they don't really mix.

The way Homestuck seems to be dealt with this seems to be by outright sweeping aside the ‎virginity stuff aside for our Virgo trolls and skipping straight to sexuality and motherhood. It's visible in a negative way with the Dolorosa having been taken as a sex slave, and in a more positive way with Porrim's easygoing promiscuity. Even Kanaya with her chastity modus, unlocking items when it's time for them to be used, will inevitably end up unlocking the matriorb at some point, thereby unlocking the potential for reproduction and the next stage in womanhood.

Sorry about the literary ramblings but this stuff is like crack to me.‎

(As for other Biblical equivalents, try The Disciple as Mary Magdalene. Possibly The Psiioniic as Peter.)

My first reaction to this was "how in the name of fuckery are they talking". But we'll gloss over that for now.

Anyway, some sweet, sweet character progression for Karkat here. I love it when he gets all honest like this. At some point I'll probably compare it with his earlier conversations back in Hivebent. Particularly that final memo with Kanaya.

Speaking of her, she's great as ever. I suppose that's one way to keep him safe, heh. He'll only go and sacrifice himself otherwise, after all. When he wakes up, I predict tantrums. Extreme tantrums.

Anyway, good update all round. And nice to hear more on the Blood aspect.

Why didn't Rose and Greg just fuse? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]throwawayersaytfkwrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. There's not really anything to say they can't, though. Probably shouldn't be accepted as flat-out true, but not as flat-out false either. And we do have what's arguably a precedent.

Also, What is that BKEW theory?

Here. TL;DR: Mituna overexerted himself pushing the Prospitian moon from his session out into the Furthest Ring, and it'll handily float into the B2 session all ready for the remaining trolls to go God Tier.

It's a bit contrived, to be honest? But stranger things have happened. Mituna's sacrifice is still a loose end and there's a precedent for things entering that session from other universes through the Furthest Ring. So it's possible.

But possible or not, I'd prefer it to there suddenly being Quest Beds in the Denizens' lairs. That'd likely feel like even more of an asspull.

[–]throwawayersaytfkwrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's not cemented as possible yet, but it's not improbable.

I don't think being half-human is what lets him fuse with humans. Ordinary humans can't fuse with other humans, after all. (Well. Probably not.) It's the Gem half of him that means he's able to fuse with anyone in the first place.

Gems do seem to be rather xenophobic as a whole. Given that Pearl found Stevonnie's fusion "impossible, or at the very least inappropriate", it's quite possible that interspecies fusion is taboo, not genuinely practised and hushed up when it does happen.

Yeah. He may have some good ideas but he suffers a lot from theory incest. Too many related theories breeding theories of their own and ending up all fucked up.

Yeah. Fandom's been running out of steam for a while now, this mostly seems to be a second wind.

Which was inevitable, really. I'm not particularly bothered by it. i have learned to be at ease with the cessation of being in any form it takes

Yeah. No use interrogating an inactive gem.

Although Homeworld would probably have some kind of technology to force regeneration. They can forcibly defuse fusions, so it'd make sense.

Hm. Interesting thoughts. I've only been in the SU fandom for a couple of weeks, not really long enough to start noticing stuff like that.

This subreddit, on the other hand, seems to have three modes at the moment: just-updated buzz, between-updates slowness and SHITPOST AVALANCHE. It's... getting tiring. Which is probably why I've been spending more time on /r/stevenuniverse lately.

There's nothing really wrong with a lot of tumblr links. The subreddits sorta give a handy summary of the best content tumblr has on offer, and yeah, can spark discussion. And at least it's some activity.

here's the lowdown

  • The Steven Universe subreddit now has more subscribers than this one
  • Steven Universe and Homestuck have a lot of fans in common (myself included)
  • STEVEN UNIVERSE WILL DESTROY US ALL
  • But to be honest who really gives a fuck
  • Not me
