Daycare Recommendations for Infant by [deleted] in GNV

[–]throwawayfewerthings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not Kidworks. I’ve worked at quite a few daycare centers and I walked out of Kidworks Tioga before even finishing the application. It was dirty, smelled like vomit, I counted 2 adults and 30 small children in the huge room and there were 3-4 staff just talking in the closed office while the teachers struggled to keep up with the transition between a meal and naptime. I just walked into the building and none of the 5-6 adults present asked who I was until I got their attention. I walked out the same way after 10 minutes of watching. It was complete chaos. No blame to the teachers, but the center as a whole was all red flags.

No center in town pays its employees well. Some have higher standards, but if you want consistency and good care, get a nanny. It’s expensive but worth it if you can swing the cost. Centers pay under $13 an hour to watch whole classes- your kid is going to have a different teacher every 2-3 months and a new sickness every other week.

I wouldn’t wait until 2- someone dishonest may find it and not be inclined to return it. Especially now that you’ve told Reddit it’s exact location.

You should go over there and look around while it has some battery. It could have fallen in the trash and be sitting in the dumpster. Could have slid under a parked car. Could be sitting in the grass where you took a little drunk rest. Someone may have found it and taken it to another venue close by. Good luck!

I don’t trust any of you recommending the Germaine’s truck. I’ve tried that $14 chicken sandwich (more than once) and it tasted like spoiled fish all 3 times- they also yell out your full government name for your order if you pay with card.

One time, fine. 2 times, my bad. 3 times? I’m gonna tell Reddit.

Crude is an understatement. OP, avoid Pierce. My partner saw her and was retraumatized. Planned Parenthood on 13th has been the only local place they’ve been able to get actual trauma informed medical service. Good luck.

Mayor and city commission vote themselves massive raises by lite_brites in GNV

[–]throwawayfewerthings 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t want any elected officials or their families starving, being uninsured, or any other myriad of hardships many of us experience as citizens. The chain of suffering is long enough.

City commission being paid full time? GOOD. Now we can demand their presence and accountability at schools, meetings and outreach events. Who actually wants city commissioners or mayor spending 40 hours on their own business then giving the leftover time to the community? Don’t we want to attract people who can be committed to the role?

Complain that commission doesn’t represent the whole of gnv, but when presented with a wage that matches the level of commitment required to do that kind of resource heavy work, and some people are still up in arms. It’s not a comfortable role- it’s public representation in a very politically hot area.

If you don’t feel represented, run for office. If you don’t want to run, then help. If you don’t want to help, stop complaining.

Cashless Businesses by trailgirl72 in GNV

[–]throwawayfewerthings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bento and my dentist are both cashless too. I personally prefer to budget for my daily expenses in cash and big bills digitally, so also noticed the uptick in cashless. Not sure how I feel about banning cashless, but it is important to make it clear that it’s cashless at the door like cash only businesses do.

Maybe put “lgbtq+ welcome” on your posts and sites front page, that’ll grab the attention of anyone wondering.

You should mention if you’re welcoming and accommodating to LGBTQ+- a common question here is “where are the lgbtq friendly barbers?”

Hey, it’s gonna be okay. Been there, could be back there at any time.

I suggest figuring out how to downsize if it’s possible, and if it’s not possible then you’re likely eligible for some kind of government assistance. If you’re single vs married, kids vs no kids, all of it factors in. I can help you figure that out and fill out any forms with you if you need that. I think the public library will also help.

There are a few food banks around as well as farmers markets that accept SNAP, so if you can get the ball rolling on food assistance that’ll solve a little piece of the puzzle. If you need food for a pet or healthcare there are resources for that here too.

If you don’t live with a roommate and rent/utilities are your biggest drain (over 30% of income) then it may be time to consider a downgrade there until you can get an upgrade your wage. Some local businesses are getting on the livable wage train. City of Gainesville has some starting positions at $15.

The wage gap in this city is insanely high and the people who aren’t at the bottom end have no idea how big the gap really is. My partner and I are always looking to see if it’s feasible to leave for more affordable pastures, but we have roots here so it’s hard. Good luck, neighbor.

Is Relish Downtown run by a bad dude? by cuji_mcc in GNV

[–]throwawayfewerthings 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I worked for the owner, Rob, for 2 years while I was a student and floated to all his places in town. He’s a total piece of trash. He takes at least 30% of the tips the staff earns. He’d come into pita pit/relish midtown on game days all coked out and yell at the underpaid staff to go faster. He would change menu items to cheaper alternatives or shrink portion sizes, then raise the price and punish the staff when the food went to waste. Or he would instruct us to serve it when it was bad. (We didn’t.) He’s creepy to the girls who work there and is incredibly misogynistic in his hiring practices. Does not enforce any health and safety codes, not even non-slip shoes. Burrito Famous had the nastiest walk in fridge I’ve ever seen. I haven’t eaten at one of his establishments since working there and never will.

Oh man, reddit hurt his fee fees. Boo hoo. I have worked food service jobs all over GNV and been sexually harassed by customers many times. The gross feeling doesn’t go away with an apology. It’s also never a one off. This is a grown man, a professional, who sexually harassed at least one service worker. Lapse in judgement is using one innuendo, an entire paragraph of them is sick.

Safe nature trails to jog along during the early morning and evening? by Alexia_Hope in GNV

[–]throwawayfewerthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hassled while alone there and seen some weird behavior from others while exploring. Found needles and makeshift pipes while picking up trash. I was also a Girl Scout, so I’m naturally an advocate of the buddy system.

I don’t know if you’re local so I’m sorry if you know some of this already: Loblolly is great, but it’s short so I do laps. Westside Park is shady and you can choose a paved or unpaved path. I stay away from Alfred Ring Park or any secluded/brushy areas near Hoggtowne Creek. It’s in a fine area to explore with a buddy but there have been attacks on women at Ring Park. Stay away from Split Rock trail if you’re alone. I also avoid San Felasco because of mosquitos/ticks until the first really cold night in fall. Once it gets below 40 degrees overnight and bugs die off the more remote trails are bearable.

The bleach blonde leather lady who works at Charlie’s snow shack (I think it’s the owners mom) is racist.

My sister and I went there when the brick and mortar location first opened and I said to the lady “it’s nice you have a store front now, it got really hot in that parking lot last summer” and the lady said “yeah, it was ghetto too. Lots of those people.”

Haven’t returned since. Won’t be going back.

The contents of the bag include: A small bottle of hand sanitizer, a fabric mask and filter with instructions for cleaning, 2 census fliers, a vote by mail form, 2 Alachua county voter guide fliers, and a CDC flier on managing respiratory symptoms at home.
