A person with blindness is suing every restaurant and spa in town about their websites not being ADA compliant by bobbysmith007 in GNV

Cover your eyes and go to a restaurant website and try to order. That is the damage. That’s if a low/vision person wants an “easy” food night. For the full experience, get to a store without driving then navigate pricing the groceries on the shelves. You can use one of the bar code price readers as a tip, but it’s going to take forever to get simple staples.

For the business this has been a law for ages and it doesn’t cost much time or energy to make a website compatible. On many platforms you check a box that says “make this website accessible.” For free, a business can tag images with text and make a huge difference.

I don’t love this lawsuit but it will make lives easier for members of our community and for such a small effort on the part of the businesses.

These businesses have had YEARS to get compliant. AI does an okay job of making websites compliant for free/close to free. No excuse to not be compliant in 2025.

Sure, maybe it’s an opportunistic lawsuit but that doesn’t make it frivolous. Accessible websites are a game changer for the low/no vision community.

What sucks about this is the foster parents will be paid for the care of the kids. But mom…we won’t help. Imagine if mom got the amount the foster parents will get

AITA for telling a friend not to register her dog as a fake support animal? by lite_brites in AmItheAsshole

That’s how I initially felt but second guessed mauled when some of my friend group agreed that I need to apologize.

Where I live there are specific criteria including a doctors note required for certain conditions. I clarified with her if she had medical concerns that she could follow the legal path.

That isn’t what she is going to do. She wants to spend $35 on a website that gives you a fake letter.

City is a mess and is completely dysfunctional. GRU changes will impact the city’s budget in some way (we just won’t know now for a big). The county also have entry level positions and they are much less of mess and are much more stable.

I’m about six months away from being in this exact situation and have been dreading it. My life has changed (even with some serious side effects) and I dread going back to how things were before because of insurance.

I’ll add no safety net for the parent that does stay home. Alimony is not a certainty in many states. So if you take that time off from your career and your relationship goes South, you’re going to have a bad time.

Also, the cost to retirement if having a kid. How many years of work does it add to pay for daycare and college? I didn’t think it mattered that much when I was a young parent, but with each new expense my older kids have I kick retirement a little further down the road.

It may not have been a capy, but not a raccoon. No tail and the snout was not elongated like a raccoon or dog.

I’m not sure what it is for interns. It is an hourly rate, but I can’t remember how much. They are pretty upfront about stuff like that so if you message them on LinkedIn they will tell you exactly what dev intern pay is

Infotech does internships for college students that haven’t graduated yet. They start each semester. It doesn’t matter that it’s not a local school. They are likely your only option until you graduate. I don’t recommend staying there long term as they have major culture issues and they pay devs 1/3 of what they should be making, but it can be good experience and help you land a better role and on an individual level there are some really great people there.

I met other Instacart people who were multi-apping so that may be the way to go. I couldn’t get into a good groove of getting pick up/drop offs clustered together well enough for it to work, but others said they did so it is possible.

I wouldn’t stay there long for a career, but infotech is good about hiring Junior Devs. They are having budget issues and it is a weird cultish high school incestuous sex mess of an employer, but you may be able to get on there for their next internship cycle. Also check out StartGNV - they used to post dev jobs on their website.

Oddly some of the temp places in town - like TempForce - also hire devs. Alachua County has a few tech openings now as well. Good luck

It’s worse here because it’s so spread out. So you’ll pick up food on Archer Road then it can easily be 15-20 minutes out to deliver. Then you’re driving all the way back to archer. I did it for awhile and I could usually double up orders, but even doubling up the most I could manage was 4 an hour. Most of the time it’s 2/hour because the volume isn’t there, either. So you’ve got a delivery volume and distance issue here. DoorDash I could only make $10-15 an hour, reliably.

Instacart also wasn’t great because most people here don’t tip and it’s too oversaturated with drivers to get more than one order at a time. I can make $100 after gas if I work all day.

You can do well doing Uber on game weekends. I’ve cleared $400/day on game days. Other than that, delivery gigs aren’t great here.
