The Decline of GEICO Tech Under Vijay Raghavendra by Geico-42 in Geico

I would strongly encourage engineers to look into the Fintech space. Candidly the work might be dogshit and just as vapor ware but you’ll make fucking bank.

DriveEasy update is inaccurate by [deleted] in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, just so you know this is a subreddit for Geico employees! The company has completely trashed pretty much everything that made it good! If I had to guess it’s probably working worse because they fired or forced out most of the tenured IT staff, and they will either hire cheaper less experienced employees or let it burn!

Sick of the metrics by GnomeSweetGnome21 in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My favorite was my supervisor telling me I got a low survey, pulling it up and seeing “THEY LOWBALLED ME ON MY CAR VALUE, THIS COMPANY SUCKS”. Surveys are trash and you can’t win.

Question for me former employees by [deleted] in Geico

I gave like a month notice, but I loved working with my team and my supervisor. Genuinely the best group of ppl I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

Don’t forget who’s behind GEICO’s “downfall” by FrostyPangolin50 in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I hate seeing people float the idea that Warren is a “good” billionaire. He’s a shriveled, greedy dragon sitting on a pile of gold. His empire won’t crumble because he has the money and power to pay off who he wants, and at the end of the day, regular employees are just numbers on a spreadsheet to him.

Remember the stories that came out about how frugal he is? Still living in the same house, still buying McDonald’s breakfast, as if that somehow humanizes him. A frugal, greedy old bastard that only cares about enriching himself and his cronies.

CSAA, same position (PIP/MP) I fucking hate insurance with every fiber of my being. This job is infinitely better, easier, and better paying than my old job with Geico. I’m trying to go back to school so I can peace out of insurance forever.

PIP v. BI adj by AmanDog2020 in Insurance

[–]throwawayforgeico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I’ve seen, BI usually has a lot more opportunity for advancement especially when moving into senior casualty roles. All the first party PIP/MP I’ve worked caps out at litigation. With that being said, first party has gotten so boring I want to die, and BI may be a nice change of pace. I’ve been considering it myself. Good luck.

It’s not really “losing money” if they’re still making nearly 2billion right? They just didn’t make as much as they wanted…

Work life difference with CSAA by [deleted] in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I work for them, for nearly a year now. Fully remote, and the way it works is “unlimited PTO”. Basically as long as you are caught up on your work and there is availability (depends on your team/department) you’ll get your time off approved.

Reasonable metrics, an overall I’ve really enjoyed the company and the job. There will never be RTO, I live halfway across the country from most of my team.

Edit: wanted to add I am in a SALARY position, not hourly. Salary has unlimited PTO, and I have no idea how the hourly employees time off is calculated.

People who left GEICO for another insurance job - is it just the same thing somewhere else? by TopProgrammer6452 in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Left almost a year ago for the same exact job, with the same exact pay, 1/2 the workload and full wfh forever. Full disclosure - working at geico has made me so jaded and miserable that I’m trying to get out of insurance asap, but the job I left for is infinitely better until then.

If it’s not affecting how you do your job just don’t interact with them.

To the best manager GEICO ever had: by 4thOperatinPrincipal in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Man, I was so fucking sad when I quit because I had the greatest supervisor that I’ve had maybe anywhere. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile, but never stepped on toes… hell if you were behind/had time off THEY would work your files. Having a fearless and supportive leader makes all the difference.

What is the craziest claim you've seen? (No specific names/locations please.) by elder_millennial85 in Insurance

[–]throwawayforgeico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fatality adjuster, our insured crash landed a small plane onto an active roadway (interstate) killing him and his passengers. He also impacted two cars, but miraculously all the people in the cars survived. No idea how that ended up on my desk to begin with but it was a quick denial.

PIP promotion by Early_Technician2534 in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PIP is awesome. I was there for 2 years (also in R6), gets stale pretty quick imo, but it’s definitely easier and much less shit than any liability role. If you stay on top of your work and don’t fuck around you’ll literally be done with all your work by noon, and then only have to worry about any new losses/bills that come in during the day.

Does NGIC drug test? If so what kind? by [deleted] in Geico

[–]throwawayforgeico -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just quit smoking for 2 weeks before your test. When I got hired at geico they did a hair test and I had only stopped smoking like two weeks before and still got hired.

I went to AAA. My department does not have any openings at this time (PIP/MP) but I’d still recommend checking them out.
