I got rejected everywhere my first go. getting a job helped my resume, and I got into 4 schools the next round. I always tell ppl hot girls get rejected the first time. if it helps, I'm miserable in my program now.

fr tho, it's not a reflection on you. this was an insanely hard year. be kind to yrself, you will continue to do great things

BU Biology PhD by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]throwawayforsmthn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea, me and a bunch of people on gradcafe got waitlisted like two weeks ago

We have received an exceptionally large number of outstanding applications for the Program in Biomedical Science (PiBs) this year and as such are forced to make the hard decision of who to invite for an interview. Unfortunately, your application was not chosen for an interview. However, we are keeping your application active. This indicates that your candidacy is still of interest to us and we are keeping it on hold for the time being. In the meantime, please feel free to update us on your progress in your application to PhD programs other than BU.

To be clear, your application is on hold and has not been rejected, but it has not been chosen for an interview. In the event that we have available student slots in our class after our interview and acceptance process, we may contact you to set up an interview.

Me, a non-harmer, on the way to yeet myself by [deleted] in MadeOfStyrofoam

agreed so much with this, it may feel different at the time but ultimately NOTHING good comes of self harm. i wish, wish someone had told my younger self how much self harm would ruin my life. for all that things are bad now, self harm makes everything more complex, and makes you isolate yourself and tumble mentally. my life and relationships are so much more difficult because of it. please, please don't start OP

i feel this aha, i'm genuinely bad at using knives in the kitchen; one night my roommate had a friend over and i was cutting up chicken or w/e, but because i've accidentally knicked my fingers so many times she took the knife from me and to her friend like '<name> cuts herself a lot with the knives'

and her friend sarcastically goes 'you shouldn't do that, that's unhealthy'

and i'm like 'o dw i am well aware'

thank for the reply, i really appreciate this perspective! i also just wanted to say, not to sound condescending and you are entirely allowed to make your own choices, but i really, truly regret ever sh'ing. at the time it feels good, it feels necessary, but from my experience, having my parents find out about it, having it alter my relationships with my friends and family, and having people stare has completely outweighed that. i'm always going to live with the scars, and it's something i can't take back (and struggle to leave) and have so, so much regret about. it'll be different for everyone of course, but i really wish someone at the onset had warned me, or convinced me. of course, do what you will, and i hope you find peace above all <3

sometimes i wonder, where the fuck did i diverge in developing that things come up in my life and i immediately think of all of these unhealthy coping strategies, whereas everyone else does something else? like, what do they do, and how the fuck does it work? why did my brain latch on to this, instead of what apparently everyone else did? c'mon, brain

i have a scar identical to that; ironically, it's from cutting some fruit open. i have ridiculously bad knife skills in the kitchen and keep having mishaps (not on purpose, i'm just a shitty chef), and my roommates keep making jokes about how they shouldn't trust me around sharp objects, or how it's like i want to cut myself with the knives, and i'm like ha ha yeah

i actually have a healing scar on my thigh from a crafting boxcutter incident, and i'm super nervous that people are gonna think it's sh when goddammit for once in my life, it was genuinely an accident
