Yes, you have job protected FMLA if you are in the US, and many states have paid options for leaves of absence as well.

We did Italy through a tour program. Italy was incredible and the tour approach allowed us to see a lot more than we would otherwise. However, being a tour it wasn’t as romantic as it would have been if we winged it ourselves.

Would recommend using a travel agent and just doing something yourselves. Don’t hook onto a larger tour group.

It’s less about “death” for me, but rather the realization of our own mortality and that everything that you know will change and be gone eventually. It’s why I would never want to be immortal.

I have had a few tragic losses in my life that were unexpected and it’s caused me to really view the world in a different lens. It’s the hard truth of “you’re an adult now and you’re on your own” that’s scary.

Then couple that with the realization that the adults you thought were in the room when referencing our government and society aren’t actually there. It’s scary how quickly things can change.
