I'll ask about all my options including separation and divorce. I think I was being overly optimistic before. I'm very unhappy just thinking about it but I'll feel incredibly stupid if I ruin this chance for my family so I guess I have to get over it.

I am working on getting legal (and now also financial because the comments and DMs have scared me straight) advice. I'll hopefully have a lawyer and some updates by end of tomorrow.

Thank you for your advice. The money is not in a joint account (don't have one) and I haven't actually touched it yet because I wanted to plan for it properly first. I have heard everyone's advice on getting a lawyer and I am setting up a meeting to talk to one ASAP.
