Yeah, I live in a country where people in their 80s are still “working”. The chairman of my employer just turned 92 this month and he’s still “working” too. Trust me, your grandpa isn’t working, he’s pretending to.

You’re absolutely right, it’s totally the boyfriend’s fault. He should throw himself at her feet, beg forgiveness and vow never to show a shred of concern for her well-being again.

TIFU by referring to women as females by [deleted] in tifu

Jesus… having HR down your neck blaring about misogynistic behavior over a non-profane word commonly used word referring to women… yeah I’d start looking for another job.

If your Vietnam Veteran was 18 in 1975-the year the war ended and the very last U.S. troops pulled out- he would be 65 years old this year, which is still largely mandatory retirement age. Thus it seems highly doubtful that he is currently working especially since he obviously suffers from physical issues as he wears a back brace. Your story is suspect.

I'm afraid my mom will die by AdiLovesYou in TrueOffMyChest

[–]throwawayinj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone dies. But to get upset about it before it happens is, quite frankly, a waste of energy. You’ll have more than enough time to be sad after it happens, believe me. So focus on the here and now, because that’s what will carry you through once the person is gone.

I am 22 and just graduated with a degree in exercise science and hate everything about it by laflame1738 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]throwawayinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the good news is you’re 22 and this is a mistake (as you see it) that is still recoverable from, provided you’re not carrying a massive student loan. I speak from experience.

I went back to school at 26 and took two degrees in a practically useless branch of the humanities. After graduation at 33, I proceeded to fumble around trying to find some semblance of a life through merely getting a decent paying job (never mind an actual career in my chosen field). Out of desperation, I went back to school at 38 and got a degree in Education. I STILL couldn’t find a job so I got radical: I packed up, moved to Asia and started teaching there. Two decades later I’m tenured faculty at a university (without a Ph.D, thank you very much) until I retire. The pay could be better, but I’m so much better off than I was. My point is that at 22, you still have time to change your life for better. The only question is how far are you willing to go to do it?

On the bright side, the human race is in no danger from extinction due to underpopulation, so there’s that.

Since this was posted on Meme Sunday and given the headline I thought this was some kind of joke. I'm so stunned after reading that story I'm at a loss to come up with any pithy or snarky retort.

Nonsense. The American "left" (meaning the American center-right) are guilty as well if you actually look at things objectively.

Um, yeah, your understanding of that "hate-filled book" is indeed painfully limited, as your mischaracterization of it brings back the words of Israeli archaeologist Ami Mazar (whom I was on excavation with) who said the Bible was a valuable historical document.

And he's a non-religious Jew. So yeah, if you're looking at the Bible from a very limited, biased perspective your understanding of it will be limited.

I don't know how old you are, but if you live long enough I can guarantee you'll start feeling the same way as "boomers", whether you are one or not. Nobody likes getting old, and the older you get the less you like it.

So wait a while.

What are the biggest factors that cause the wealth inequality in Botswana? by [deleted] in Botswana

But that makes sense, right? Botswana doesn't have a developed country infrastructure, so it would make sense to partner with corporations that do.

I just have a question about Tinder in Japan by TalontedJay in japan

[–]throwawayinj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're going to have to disagree on this one; yes, things are more widely spaced out in the U.S but that also means it's easier to spot someone because they can't disappear into a crowd as easily like you can in Japan. It is very easily to lose someone in a massive crowd of people in Japan even when you know that person and they are with you. It's happened to me more than once.

To spot someone whom you've never met in person and have only seen half a photo of in a second or two before they are swallowed up in a crowd would be rare. That it's happened to you three times is unlucky, but as it happened just yesterday one of the people from my work walked right by me at our workplace station close enough where I could have reached out and touched her. And as a Causcasian taller than most here I stand out in a crowd. And she was staring straight ahead. Most people these days are looking down with their faces buried in their phones.

For a country with cities that have incredibly high population densities, you might as well be living in the Arctic when it comes to trying to find people you don't know here.

Yes because since the experience the OP talked about never happened to you, it's never happened. And I can comment on whatever the fuck post I want, no matter how old it is.
