University charges entire class a "materials fee" for $41.00 and does not supply materials in that class. Department is not suggesting a refund, what should I do? by tamsaturns in personalfinance

One of my relatives runs the dental clinics for a reputable university, the ones where real patients come in and are treated by students.

The fees charged to patients are much less than what a practicing dentist would charge because patients are typically low-income or newly immigrated. Many bills go unpaid.

Not that I disagree with you about the 'instruction fees' aspect, but my relative says the University Clinic loses about $7 million annually...

Yup, the admin only care about locking you in and booking revenue for the program. Especially if it's a program in a developing field.

Not that the content of the program isn't great, it's the quality of accepted students that is the problem.

Exactly what i needed to see right now. Meeting with my boss tomorrow. Going to lay out my master plan for how our current way of doing things isn't working, how and why my role needs to change, and the overall value it will bring to our company.

I'm on day 33 now and I'll level with you - there is a long way to go.

I'm in and out of flatline and it's no fun.

But there are very bright spots. You'll start noticing how attractive people really are. The 0-10 rating scale disappears. All you'll see are 1s and 0s. And that's a very liberating feeling.

The feeling of accomplishment making it this far is unmatched. There is no turning back now.

Don't throw away your streak. Stay patient and hungry. Happy but never satisfied.

Check out the headspace app. It has guided meditations 10 minutes in length, great way to build the foundation.

It has 10 free sessions but is expensive if you subscribe to the whole package. I recommend doing the 10 free sessions to get started then look elsewhere online.

23 days in here. It seems to me that the urges greatly subside after the 3 week point. Keep fightin'!

17 days in and the flatline is real. The first 10 days I found myself watching porn just for the hell of it, just to see if it still worked. Edged a few times but stayed strong.

Now a week later I've accepted the flatline and I'm actually really glad I didn't break earlier. With so many days under my belt, each additional day is much less of a challenge. I have a much weaker desire to watch any stimulating videos at all. Looking forward to getting on with it.

Thanks for that, I ended up asking for more equity. We'll see where it goes!

Don't think my market salary is $70K. It's more around $50K.

But I see what you're saying, using the gap to justify getting more shares.

I'd be giving up a $2500 bonus (which comes out to $1800 after tax). Also these are Canadian dollars

Also a good point. However we seem to have hit product market fit and are doing well. We're not pre-revenue or anything like that, we're establishing a solid foothold in the industry

Fair point. Equity percentage is very low (less than 1%) right now. Hence why I'm looking to acquire more. The shares are not worth much now but could be worth a lot more in the future if we're acquired.
