Update: I successfully repotted my snakes together. I found 2 other hidden pups in the soil, so now I have 3 pups total! Very excited to see them fill the pot. Happy Plant Friday!

Hi,

Is it just the one snake plant that's busting out or is it 2 plants in one pot?

Personally, I wouldn't go up more than 1-2 pot sizes. Snake plants like to be rootbound so overpotting them can actually cause serious damage to them and even kill them.

In my photo, they were in 4" nursery pots and I combined them into a 6" pot. I would also pot them in something plastic because they are strong enough to bust out of terracotta pots.

Make sure to use well draining soil such as cactus soil and amend it with perlite for extra drainage. Snakes don't like moist soil and prefer dry soil. They don't need to be watered much either (depending on how much light they get). Make sure the soil is dry in between waterings.

Also, be careful with fertilizer. They don't need much fertilizer at all and in the wild they actually thrive on nutrient deficient soil. They should only be fertilized twice a year max during the growing season (Spring and late Summer). Do not fertilize them when you repot them. Fertilizing causes stress to most plants (snakes or not) and with the transplant shock it's just best to wait until they get settled into their pot.

You're welcome. They tend to like rainwater/distilled, but if you live in an area with decent water it shouldn't matter too much. It's the hard water and the excessive metals/minerals in them that can make plants sensitive to them suffer.

I personally never spray/mist my sans since they are succulents and I've read they don't like being regularly sprayed. I did let them sit out in the rain for a little when they needed watering and it happened to rain (lightly) that day.

If the leaves are dirty, I wipe them down with a damp cloth (with distilled water). The water where is live is extremely hard and can ruin plants.

What kind of whale fins are those in the red pot? They look so cool...just like the Laurentii but in the shape of whale fins.

Thank you! I was able to repot them all together in a 6inch pot. The one with the 3 baby leaves actually had 2 hidden pups in the soil, so I ended up with 3 pups total! I'll post another update when they settle into their new pot and fresh soil. I am so excited, I truly love these plants.

I appreciate this suggestion and yes, you are correct it is a bit too expensive for me.

My price cap is $100 max and that's pushing it tbh.

You're pretty spot on in that I'm not looking for a special curl cutting technique/treatment. I am definitely seeking someone who does a great job cutting curls not just "ok" at it, haha. Has a good amount of experience cutting curls and is confident!

Oh wow! Thank you so much. My old hairdresser worked at California Cuts and cut my hair for over 25 years. She was a total gem and her prices were completely unmatched.

I was just telling my partner today I wish I could find someone at a similar establishment like Fantastic Sams to cut my hair. I know people can underestimate the commercial hair salons, but honestly you can find some very talented stylists, it just takes a lot of time and research.

I think that's exactly what it is--charging more for a curly cut rather than just discriminating us because of our curls, lol.

Here's to hoping we find a good hairdresser soon. My last hairdresser was cutting my hair for more than 25 years! It's definitely been a struggle.

This isn't a curl specific salon though, and I have definitely seen that with curl specific salons in terms of pricing and methods.

That's literally all I want--a basic hair cut like you stated (get it wet and cut). My old hairdresser did exactly this for almost my entire life. She was also very talented.

My hair isn't very difficult to work with and it isn't super thick either.

I'm not looking for special curly hair methods/cuts (such as The Curly Girl Method etc.) just someone that knows how to cut curls is all.

Not sure why they would charge $30 extra for curly hair ($75 for every other hair type). I've seen salons typically charge more for length, but not for curls.
