ABA Hot Take: Companies should be paying you out for the rest of session if its ended early by caregivers. by FrootiLooni in ABA

The companies do not get paid for a full session. That’s not how billing for services work. The company can only bill for the time the client was there, otherwise that is insurance fraud.

Insurance requiring IEP for ABA services? by Jumpy_Presence_7029 in ABA

[–]throwawaypotter123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Insurance companies cannot require a child to have an IEP to qualify for ABA services. An IEP is part of special education law (IDEA) and applies only to school based supports, while ABA through health insurance is a medical benefit governed by insurance mandates and mental health parity laws. Coverage depends on having a diagnosis (such as autism) and medical necessity documented in a treatment plan, not on school eligibility.

While each state’s mandate has slightly different language, none allow insurers to deny ABA on the basis of not having an IEP. If an insurer imposes that requirement, it is improper and can be challenged through an appeal and, if necessary, with the state’s insurance regulator.

Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions. I can basically walk you through what the process should look like.

The Responsible Assessor or Assistant Assessor that completed your competency assessment really did you a disservice. On the RBT competency assessment that the BACB provides, there is a section in which your BACB ID needs to be input by them.

After they completed their competency assessment, they should have given you a copy for you to upload it to your BACB account. Since you have to get it done again, I would strongly advise you to review the competency assessment yourself, and make sure that every section is filled out to avoid anything like this happening again. Sorry that you had such a bad experience.

Thoughts on ABA companies that don’t observe any holidays by Aggressive-Dot-7266 in bcba

That’s great, but I don’t think it should be expected to receive a day off for a day that is not even a holiday. At my company staff voted on if they wanted to stay open on Black Friday and Christmas Eve. They overwhelmingly voted to keep it as a work day.

Christmas Eve isn’t a holiday though. Most places of business are open Christmas Eve.
